Personal history
He was born to a good, literary minded family, in a town west of Waynesburg, near the major temple on the Lake. They lived there well, associated with the temple, but were forced to struggle to survive during the wars. When he was 15, he went to Waynesburg, where he started working in the library, first at the cathedral of St. Lester, then at St. Michael's university. In 1610, he started to attend the university as an official student. He did all right, but he was always drawn to the streets, and to the world of arts and literature. He did not get along with the wizards guild and their allies who were ascendent in the university - he spent more and more time outside, in the bars and taverns, the places where people sang, and told stories and read poems, and put on shows. He was ambitious - he wanted to write plays - and worked on this as much as his studies.
He left the university for good around 1614-15. He soon found himself working with the police (he had become friends with some of the detectives in the force, people like Jacky and Shockley and the like), and eventually became a watchman himself. There, he did not really make an impression - he was mostly a street cop, though he did have ties to the detectives; he was not ambitious, and treated this as a way to mark time and collect stories, that he was sure he would be able to make art out of. Though a lot of this is a kind of inertia, and a sense of failure - his frustration at not being the riter he ewanted to be.
