Ovebis (oh-veh-bis)

A species once from the world of Lainuru. Their homeworld was invaded and the species relocated from mostly Skonort interference that lead to its complete ruin until it became revived under zeanite ownership. The ovebis are a bipedal ungulate type race that were once believed to resemble ox-goat creatures, but since seem to have either evolved or their records inaccurate as their contemporary known appearances is more clearly ovine (distinctly sheep-like).   Their modern home is the plainly labeled Lainuru II, with some mixed establishments and colonization elsewhere. Their planet is rich in alpine environments, water, and soft minerals. They have adapted in weird ways, eventually advancing with trade ties, and developing a system of strict democracy and productive cloning use.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Pointy ears, simple and small sharp horns. Their bodies have fur curling inward and made out to be like wool, often of a color between white and black with murky dust tones all easy to find. Deeper earthen brown-reds and abyssal blues have been seen, as has a 'gold-white' tone, each considered somewhat more rare. Their tails are somewhat tufted. Once thought to be more of their most distinctly ox-like trait, the tail now just grows short hair down the length, and has its tuft sort of knot into a cotton-like ball at the end. Usually their actual skin is dark, or darker than the wool and fur that grows over it, but coated over well sometimes by the fur or wool to really tell. The head may or may not have wool depending on the individual's grooming conditions - wool is often shorter on the head than the body, and sometimes simply trimmed.   Between the sexes, they have most average bipedal mammal differences, but both genders grow out mostly equal horns. However their wool may also grow a bit different. Traditionally females have more dense and curling wool, making the ewes better than rams had harvesting softer wool from. Males may still appear somewhere to have true fur for their early life, only growing it cloudy and fluffy in mature stages, and elements like their tail tuft may remain with more of an ox-like appearance. Their neck tends to grow a bit more of a tuft out, and it can extend further down the chin, giving them a slightly bearded goat look in some instances if its not trimmed. In some instances, ewes have a similar effect occur with their tails, with the cotton end sometimes growing pas a ball and resembling more of the sort of tuft a dorva may grow out.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Despite appearances, ovebis are actually omnivores, just with a plant and fiber focus and bias. They adore salads, and eat plenty of grains and similar materials. However they will be entirely fine with eggs, insects, and fish. Other meats are often irregular, however they find it very rude to turn down offers or customs abroad and can be found easily eating burgers by fast food places, or midnight steaks around recreate diners. For drinks, beer is popular to the point lamb-friend variant is widely distributed, but have high standards for lager and bock styles.

Social Structure

Double Down Democracy   The Ovebis love democracy in a more raw form than most would settle with. They gather in systems that often involve rallying to vote on larger operating moves. They work in modern enough ways to expend and gather money, forge facilities, and work in real jobs, but local policy changes force most operations to halt or form a represented response from every local peer in a small pool. They come together and forge ideas on 'tickets'. Sometimes these ideas and votes are even on nominating categories for the final vote, extending the process along as ideas are put out, and tallied into a final scoring system. In order to vote, usually someone must buy each ticket, and this gets funneled into the tax system that usually pays for the plans and improvements or pays the managers. The tickets in most modern society are automated on a digital read-out, and hosted publicly, so the chances of cheating are small and more on the side of checking that one person = one vote only. Likewise voting fully remote is illegal in most Ovebian areas given they want real people there watching and responding to the voting and count.   Qyozmite Consumers   Among their list of crossed allies and negotiations, they've long started to trade with Qyozmites. While it was difficult at first to pay for these things, they were greatly amazed by the tech prowess and lack of hostile behavior from the dwarven race. As time passed, they became seen as a frequent customer and ally. Some ovebis directly work close with the race, sometimes as guards or more commonly as ambassadors and sales types. Some have fallen into debt, and are operating close more out of forced coercion. Yet the two mostly speak well with each other, and the tech has spread well enough to become partially normal in some sectors, and more major repairs or updates are often quickly handled in some way with taxes and votes from small collectives that appease the bad prices. A lot of this tech is shared material, but plenty of odd trinkets and hand-me-downs have started to persist for those that have had a more personal grace or survived a debt period.   Dolly Denizens   After some time and setting themselves back up, their trades with the qyozmites paid off with perks that spread well across their society. Among them was the use of special cloning. Comparable with 'budget cloning', they have produced clones to help produce their wool trade on a larger scale without pressuring civilians that don't want to participate. These clones follow a likeness to a citizen, having a root they come from. They take some time to incubate, and are altered mostly mentally from the individual. Some features may change, but most carry over save for the ears being hardcoded to modify all clones with slightly longer, heavier, droopy ears. Furthermore they have a permanent digital tag embedded in them that certain equipment can pick up. Mentally, they are pre-installed to believe their entire life is owed in gratitude to their makers, feeling an almost religious fever for the genuine ovebis. They tend to be calm, and quiet when not tasked. They are fed a special mix called 'wool-seed' that is an amalgamation of different plants, fibers, and sugars that help keep basic fur health in check. Some might diversify the method this is delivered, with some cases calling for stronger or fatter clones. They don't have the self-sustaining intelligence to think much about their own meals, and often don't make or maintain the best wool coats compared to the genuine professionals.   Often they are rare to find in a poorer home, but in upper society most houses have at least dabbled in keeping a clone servant almost like a pet, usually with the clone's root being the land's owner. Beyond wool, they may stay in small clone farms or communities if their maker or adoptions have collected them together. In more factory line jobs, they work and commune close to the area. In some instances, they may substitute a job for a worker to go vote. They may be found doing simple cleaning, playing (even encouraged to play with 'true' lambs), assisting with small house chores, assisting to carry votes, or participating in semi-dangerous tests. In extreme cases they may be armed to defend their masters, but have strict codes that prevent them from fighting something akin to ovebian domestic conflict and are quite frail against serious threats anyway. Their wool is frequently sheered, sometimes their horns cut and taken, and in more rare cases they are fattened for mutton but the majority detest this even if a few democratic communities have passed it.
