Gearmen

Also known as Rust Goths, but ultimately both terms are just common nicknames. The Gearmen is a group of humans mostly now resident to planet Dustin. They had a rather unfortunate path towards the OA system. Their origins are said to be from a universe where their homeworld suffered resource depletion until dry, and an unprepared society trying all too late to go starbound. Of the colony-sized crews that could lift off, one fell off course, and was saved only by chance of a large tear that lead into the OA - albiet one of the places not too far off from sharing their own misfortune. They crashed on Dustin, and the survivors built above old ryclin ruins. Since being discovered, they were quickly granted some limited standing in the Orbital Archipelago government, but similar to the Mysiloid, lack full power.   The Rust Goths built a strange society suited to the conditions of Dustin, but also remarkable for potentially some old habits. They built mostly high off from the hazardous swamps and rising water conditions of some, though some cities are little more than large metal platforms where collectives of large cargo freights and scrapped ships serve as housing. The people themselves struggle to breath in Dustin's atmosphere, and supposedly had issues with the last days of their home planet's as well. Generations of breathing different controlled air substitutes, has lead to offspring that exclusively needs their own air treatment, and so this form of humanity is rarely seen without a large mask and keep mostly to their own Dustin colony. The suits they often wear are quite heavy, and often look like a copper-toned metal that has largely lead to their name, and their rustic industrial reputation.

Common Dress code

The typical Gearmen must wear a heavy suit of protection from both the environment, and their own conditions. This often also makes them slightly shorter and stronger, in comparison with the Vahamins. The suits typically include a full-faced mask, and a conical rim hat to go against the rain. However even though almost everyone gets these suits in their life, there are those who re-modify theirs, and expression through mechanical modification, and crude art is a very common trend among Gearmen civilians. Some will choose to repaint parts in a scrappy white or pink for higher contrasts, while others break down the conical hats into odd frill-like fringes, with designs often odd to the individual and can be as strange as extra goggle lenses working in parallel to create the illusion of four-to-six eyes, or be as simple as wearing a sentimental scarf. This expression is sometimes the only way to identify some individuals in crowds, and pieces or traces of these fashionable changes mean a large deal to them, and often become associated with their sense of identity.
