Numari

Numari are the primary inhabitants of the continent Numaria, and are believed to be the first living beings created by the gods to populate Orbis after the Praetari.     The numari lived in isolation until the year 1579, when a mysterious song echoing from the treacherous Opasnan Sea quieted the storm that once rendered it untraversable. Travel between Numaria and the other areas of the world began soon after, exposing the numari to the rest of Orbis and the great wars that had been raging there.

Physical Description

Numari are a relatively tall race, typically ranging from around 5'11 to 6'7 in height. They are universally characterized by their long, pointed ears and their affinity for magic.   Numari generally differ in appearance on a regional basis.

Language

The common language spoken is Numarian, which differs slightly in pronunciation depending on regional accent.   Following exposure to the rest of Orbis in 1579, Cirrene became more widely used within Numaria though has never overshadowed Numarian as the most popular language.

Culture

Numari have a rich and varied culture, which differs largely on a regional basis.   Due to the nature of their magic, which connects them to the gods, the numari are a widely reverent and pious people.

Naming Conventions

The use of family names is not common in Numaria. Most numari will introduce themselves by stating their birth name followed by the place they are from. While familial ties and values are important in most Numarian cultures, there is generally a greater sense of loyalty to one’s home rather than to individual family units.   Family names and their distinctions are more important amongst royalty and nobility. Those in positions of power within society (or those who aim to be) will distinguish themselves with their family name, as an important marker of their legacy.   The exception to this convention are the Kytari, who operate within a clan-based society and the importance of familial affiliation is more deeply rooted within their culture.
