To the east and southeast of Numaria lies the Opasnan Sea, the largest of all the seas on Orbis. For nearly as long as numari have inhabited Numaria, the Opasnan had been treacherous and inhospitable, its storms swallowing up the lives of countless voyagers and sailors. For centuries, nobody knew or remembered what lies beyond its
horizon nor
beneath its surface.
The Kalmean Sea
“The Calm Sea” in Old Numarian
Between Belas and Knosta, and north of Numaria lies the Kalmean Sea. Voyagers and traders crossing the Kalmean ought to take care to ensure that the current does not push them too far north into the Opasnan, lest they forfeit their lives.
The Beskan Sea
“The Endless Sea” in Old Numarian
To the south and southwest of Numaria lies the Beskan Sea. In an attempt to discover the rest of the world, early Carocoan scouts set out to conquer the Beskan. Countless fruitless voyages were made throughout the centuries as ships would return unsuccessful after every attempt. Each expedition would last longer than the last, despite the lack of any success discovering new lands before the crew’s food and supplies dwindled to nothing.
Carocoan folklore and literature romanticize the Beskan Sea as a jealous lover, using her magic to ensure that her beloved can never escape her grasp.
