Wardell Hosschultz IV
Wardell Hosschultz IV, better known as Archduke Hosschultz, was a Duke from the Eastern Duchy of the Kingdom of Dreibach who reigned from Y1050 until his Y1005 death in the Glorious Revolution. He was the last in the position to hold the title of archduke.
Archduke Hosschultz was notorious among the sailors of Brightwater for his strict control of the ports. He outlawed the Emerald Flotilla in the 1090s and broke up all seamen's fraternities and sailor's unions among the merchant ships, citing both as a danger to crew morale. Though mercantile trade thrived in the region, particularly thanks to the archduke's stake in the Robustin Family's growing Coffee exports, sailors suffered long hours with unreasonably low wages.
The Mariner's Raid, a bloody uprising in April 1005, killed Hosschultz and several of his guests while they celebrated a recent business deal aboard his pleasure yacht, the Scaladiccino. His death sparked outrage across nobles and business leaders across Dreibach, causing the King to shut down Brightwater's ports and order a naval blockade of the region. However, the success of the sailors' collective of the Elmbough inspired the revolutionary spirit of working-class Brightwessians, and Hosschultz's death was soon commemorated in songs and poems that spread across the revolution, many of which remain popular to this day.
