Jónque

A jónque (plural: jónquë) is a type of Sun Elf sailing ship recognizable by its distinctly-shaped sails. There are two main types of jónquë: the small, flat-bottomed jónque-ilduinë used to traverse the many rivers of Scalados, and the larger, more robust jónque-oumi used for fast, reliable travel between the islands of the Aquatic Kingdoms.
Jónquë are common trading vessels, found throughout the waters of the Aegirrán Sea and along the coast of Scalados. Enchalmida and Urbana al-Sona are both well-known hubs for their construction. They have fully battened sails that keep the sail largely flat in all wind conditions, and they are steered by a rudder mounted in the stern. Though jónquë are usually made of soft woods, they are reinforced by the building methods of the internal compartments, which allow a large volume of trade goods to be stored while still reinforcing the ship. Since the internal compartments are separated and each are accessed with different hatches and ladders, this building method also mitigates damage in the event of a hole, storm, or other flood. Jónquë make up for their small size in speed and navigability.
