Ilga the Brave

Ilga the Brave, commonly known in contemporary times as Saint Ilga, was an Orokh outlander, chieftain, and priestess best known as the founding mother of the Nuél-orokh.   Ilga was born to an unknown Prairie Clans tribe in the late years of the Age of Anxiety. She was expelled from the tribe before reaching adulthood and wandered the northern regions of present-day Dreibach with her riding-wolf companion Balán. On one particularly cold night, the god Prometheus appeared to her, and gave her and Balán the gift of controlled fire, which had previously been unknown to mortals.   Due to the lack of a written Orokhimshe tradition and the loss of information during The Extinguishing, it is difficult to distinguish factual accounts of Ilga's life from myth. Some stories describe her journey into the mountains of Draxhaven to the present-day location of Dodiöu Réijmí (a city which still considers her something of a godmother). Other accounts claim that she wandered as far west as the Crown-Fire Grove in the Western Woods, where she allegedly held council with the Circle of the Crown-Fire Keepers and founded the Circle of the Lightkeepers. Still other legends describe her journeying as far south as the Impossible Mountains to bless the first Fireborn, and as far east as the ruins of Achlyssia to comfort refugees of the sunken city. While the Vohonim, as a rule, do not outright deny any classic legends of Ilga's travels, they do note that she would have needed to live to well over 350 years of age to have accomplished every deed attributed to her.
