Four Founders
The Four Founders were the mythical first settlers of Cape Hildegard: the Sun Elf Saint Alma, the Gnome Saint Clara, the Orokh Saint Nadia, and the Human Saint Francesca. Each is said to have captained a ship to sail across the present-day Aquatic Kingdoms, and each ship made anchor in the harbors of present-day Cape Hildegard around the same time. All four founders met each other on their journey further into the island of Cypruvalu, made pilgrimages to the top of Mount Scivias and prayed together for twenty-one days and twenty-one nights. Though all are said to have failed on their quests after going their separate ways, their crews founded the bustling scholars' city of Cape Hildegard, which continues to strive for knowledge to this day.
Saint Alma, who journeyed for her lost love, traveled far beyond the Cape, far beyond the Mount—to the corners of the Plane itself—and never found the woman for whom her heart cried out. Saint Clara, who journeyed for knowledge—for the cure to a terrible disease from which she was slowly withering away—toiled in towers and labs untold, always nearly cracking its secrets—but succumbed in the end, her work lost to mortal minds. Saint Nadia, who journeyed for might—to gain ultimate power in the martial, the arcane, and the divine—went mad in the arena one day, and was slain by one of her own students. And Saint Francesca, who journeyed for glory—well, she settled here and led an ordinary life. No grand deeds of heroism or treachery, no great works of art or invention, no handprint left on the mortal experience worth more than a passing glance. But… I suppose we still speak of her anyway, don't we? —Fable of the Founders
