As the water from Titan's Peak carves its way through the earth, it breathes life into the forest below. Now, it is but a faint memory of the elder's magic.
The Feyspring River is a part of the longest river in the western region of Oniran. While it technically starts from
Titan's Peak, the name only refers to what begins on the South side of
Dragonspine Mountains, flows into and out of
Lake Nimue, and weaves all throughout
Stonewood Forest. Since the source is Titan's Peak the water itself is believed to be magical, even if only slightly, as well as the reason Stonewood Forest has such unique traits. The origin of the names "Feyspring" and "Nimue" are unknown.
Lake Nimue
Feyspring river flows into Lake Nimue before branching off in two distinct directions, with only the one leading into the forest keeping the name. The lake itself is massive and can take anywhere from 1 or 2 days to travel top to bottom by boat. Also, I'm sure its no surprise to anyone that the wildlife has also been influenced by magic.
Feyspring Harbor
Located right at the sweet spot where the lake flows into the river, Feyspring Harbor is more akin to a town than just a collection of docks and markets. It serves as another example of how cultures can flip from district to district. Even when compared to the rest of the kingdom the vibe here is particularly rowdy and unpredictable, some even refer to them as Freshwater Pirates.
Unique Wildlife
Veilmaiden
An ethereal fish with long, translucent fins trailing behind like a wedding gown. You'll rarely see it, but should you ever come across one as you traverse the forest, you'd be wise to follow. It is one of the few creatures unfooled by the river's path.
Baxel
Baxels are small and energetic troublemakers living in both the river and the forest surrounding it. You'll see them in many forms, some having wings, others with rock-like scales, and all of them with colorful, leaf-like fins. Other quirks include always living in pairs, an obsession with eating the aforementioned berries (the poisonous ones specifically), and a knack for befriending anyone who offers them treasure.
Dead Man's Gamble
A particularly unique berry bush that sprouts up near the river's edge. There are two types of berries with only little difference between them. One is perfectly safe to eat and is quite filling, the other is extremely poisonous. A name well earned.
Bonus Lore
Winding Paths
Upon entering the forest itself, the river ceases normality and begins to branch out like a maze. This is where the fun begins. The river splits, merges, begins and ends abruptly, and grows more chaotic the deeper into the forest you travel. Following the current will accomplish nothing. If you want to venture into Stonewood Forest, you'd best have a ranger in your party. Although some wonder where you'd end up should you let the river take control.
The Glade
Depending on who you ask, this is either a fairy tale or the sole reason for the river's strange behavior. It is said that in the heart of the forest lies a glade of unmatched beauty, and that those who are deemed worthy to find it are fated to become heroes. Finding it is not without hardship, however, the glade is not the only landmark hidden within the forest, after all.
The Feyspring Maiden
Synonymous with the legend of the glade, the Feyspring Maiden is believed to be the being who judges whether or not adventurers are worthy of finding her. According to the stories, and perhaps the less than trustworthy accounts of those claiming to have seen her, the maiden offers gifts to those who are pure of heart.
Despite its age, there are large parts of Oniran that are uncharted, unexplored, or simply lost to time.
For the budding adventurer, there is never a shortage of places to explore.

While I would love to go on an adventure, writing them is enough for me.
All the art is made by me unless labled otherwise!
Oh and also this world looks a LOT cooler if you have the Nova Cut/Nova Round Google Fonts!
Great article! It felt easy to read through thanks to the good layout and writing style. It was fun to read about the wildlife and the strange behaviour of the river in the forest. Also loving the Baxel design!
