Temple of Vhakizla

The Temple of Vhakizla was the headquarters of the Cult of Vhakizla in Izla. Constructed in 589 1A, destroyed in 5 2A and reconstructed in 38 2A, the grand structure has seen and survived multiple regime changes. 

Description

Located in Canalside, directly off the Heartvein River, the Temple of Vhakizla was one of the largest structures in Izla. Eight enormous columns supported the structure and great dragon banners flapped from its eaves. Beneath the domed ceiling stood a towering likeness of the dragon in her ancient splendor. Beneath the temple were a warren of chambers, offices and storage, where the clergy lived, studied and practiced their most secretive rituals.
While shuttered at night, the temple was open all during the day, permitting any pilgrim to come and pay their respects to the dracoqueen.

History

First Age

A few decades into her reign, Vhakizla suspected that the people of Izla still harbored resentments about her rise to power. Thus, in 581 1A, she commissioned the construction of an enormous temple in Canalside, where all could worship her more openly. The temple took eight years to construct and was completed in 589 1A. While it immediately became the center of dragon worship in the city, it was never quite filled to capacity and was, many days, empty.

Second Age

Upon conquering the city, Caliphar II ordered the temple demolished. Its enormous size, however, meant it took nearly three years to break apart. The site sat empty and abandoned for all three decades of his reign.
Shortly after resuming control of the region, the now undead Vhakizla commanded the temple rebuilt and restored to its exact specifications. Beginning in 38 2A, this took twice as long as the original construction for the dracolich was never exactly satisfied with her likeness and ordered the idol remade four times. In 54 2A, the Temple was finally completed.
As attacks from the Sanguine intensified in 67 2A, there was frequently an armed garrison headquartered at the Temple.

• Vhakizla: Upon arriving in Izla to hunt down the Sanguine, the Menagerie made their base camp at the Temple of Vhakizla, their infantry bivouacking in the subterranean chambers.
