Black Book Item in Omari | World Anvil

Black Book

To the common civilian, this pocket sized, black leather book is just a portable tale or journal of no importance. Among a select group of people, it is used as an identifier, though upon further inspection, theirs all have an image of two open eyes drawn with silver ink on the cover. There are no other identifying marks. These books belong to a group of people who wish to uncover the secrets of Omari, especially those surrounding its seemingly weird historical records. Those who either found this truth on their own or stumbled into the weird tangle of covered lies are gifted their own book as an insider's mark. It's discrete enough to pass most gazes, but distinct enough among the members to easily spot each other. Most members tend to keep their books completely blank, only using it for its intended use, a secret I.D. Others fill it with info, notes, research, and ramblings, buying new ones once they are full and either storing the others in well hidden areas or destroying them least the wrong person discovers it. It is rumored that one member literally uses them as a journal to write down the secrets of others who confide in them.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Some have carved compartments hiding keys or other small items while others have hidden messages scrawled in magical, invisible ink or ciphers. Many members use it to jot down their own notes or conspiracies to uncover.

Significance

It is an important identifier for a small group of secret finders. Any leaked info from books belonging to members who write in them or if their goals are uncovered before they can back up their theories with hard facts can lead to devastating consequences.
