The Offering to Jax

On the island known as Jax, aboriginal people settled on this land before the rest of the archipelago rose from the sea and the volcano known as Jax erupted from the ground. Known as Jardu, the people are close with nature, many studying druidic ways and they worship the spirits of the land, the volcano, and the sea.   The Offering to Jax is a birthday ritual for those who have come of age among the Jardu and is practiced faithfully by all.

History

According to legend, the tradition of the offering began shortly after Jax erupted for the first time. When the spewing ceased, the leaders of the Jardu made their way to the top of the new peak and looked down into the crater. They stood on the ledge for quite some time, watching the molten rock below them churn angrily. Each of them decided to give an offering to the spirit of the volcano and dropped in the most valuable thing they had on them. Soon, the volcano seemed to calm.   Ever since that day, it was believed to be good luck to hike up to the crater and toss in something that has meaning. It became tradition that each adult Jardu would participate on their birthday in order to ensure good luck in the year ahead.

Execution

The ritual is simple, each adult on their birthday climbs to the peak and looks down into the crater. They must stand there for several minutes, in honor of their brave ancestors, and then cast something of import to them into the crater. They believe that this ritual must be performed exactly in this manner in order to ensure continued to good luck.
