Jean-Louis Boudreaux Character in Old Canon | World Anvil

Jean-Louis Boudreaux (John)

I don't care about it, not about Magic, the Order, or the Empire, the entire Universe could implode for all I care, so long as my brothers are by my side, I can stand any strom.

Sir Boudreaux of Starside Outriders (a.k.a. Lee)

Physical Description

Body Features

Pays de Rêve Seal

Upon arrival to Pays de Rêve, 'Dreamland', Louis, like all those taken there, was marked with the Pays de Rêve seal, which legally made him the property of Lady Marie-Élise Lazard, just like the other children. It was a seal of three candy skulls bound by rose thrones placed on his upper back, just below his neck. Within Commonwealth Controlled systems, this seal meant Bounty Hunters were legally allowed to capture and return him to Dreamland for monetary compensation. To avoid this, Louis had a new tattoo placed over it, this one being 3 great suns to blackout the candy skulls. This became the Starside Outriders Chapter Sigil and all members now bear the 3 suns on their backs as well.

Facial Features

  • Noticeable Freckles on his face

Special abilities

Elemental Release: Wood Tome
Louis has the Wooden Tome which allows for the generation and manipulation of various kinds of Wood. Unlike normal Mages who may use the standard Elemental Release: Wood Art, Wooden Tome allows Louis to use his Wood Arts even in locations devoid of wood. To simplify, Elemental Release: Wood Art allows for the manipulation of Wood whilst Elemental Release: Wood Tome allows for the generation and manipulation.
Throne World: Propriété Podeste
Louis's Throne World is called Propriété Modeste, or 'Modest Domain' and is extremely simple but powerful. Once activated, enemies caught within the Throne World will have their magic and abilities stripped down to their simplest form. Unlike with most other Throne Worlds, this one does not grant Louis an advantage but with the nerf to his enemies, someone like Louis will have no problem securing victory.

Specialized Equipment

Starsaber: Faisceau Juste
The Faisceau Juste, or 'Righteous Beam', is a legendary sword, made famous by Louis himself. It was originally forged by the Iron Order and was given to Louis because it practically nullified Magical Energy. This would have been useless to most Knights but because Louis had such an abundance of energy and had trouble controlling it, the weapon was perfect for him. It was a standard size Rapier with a golden hilt and an etched blade.

Personal history

The One Who Got Away

The high society life of Mars demands that the Martians look the part, you do not exactly have to fit the bill to pay it. The rich are filled with those who ruin their lives trying to keep up appearances, a cup that has no bottom to be filled. And off the wealthy, was one such family, headed by Jean-Marius Favre and his elegant wife, Lucile Boudreaux. And to complete their look was their young son, Jean-Louis Boudreaux.   Louis enjoyed a life of luxury and excess, traveling the cosmos on expensive starships, and every meal he was served a king's feast. he loved like royalty and enjoyed a lavish life with his parents. However, everything that sparkles isn't gold, and soon the Boudreaux's fake wealth caught up to them. Their debt was exceeding numbers in the Trillions and it only grew. It would not be long before they would be arrested, but an angel answered their prayers.   Lady Marie-Élise Lazard was extremely wealthy and influential in the Commonwealth and was more than happy to resolve her good friend's debt. So kind of her, and all she asked in exchange was their precious son, Louis. Suddenly this angel became a devil and whisked Louis away, promising his parents he would live in luxury as one of her precious adopted sons. As if they cared about the boy, they could always make another son, and Louis would be fine, right? Of course.   For the next 3 years of his life, Louis thought of nothing but the sweet relief of death.   When Lady Lazard first brought him to the garden world, Pays de Rêve, he was round and plump and cherry, but now he was lean and malnourished. The other boys laughed and mocked him, how could he not eat all the glorious food their Lady so generously provided them with? At night he elected to sleep outside in the garden, why not rest your weary head on our lady's soft beds? He was the laughing stock of the palace, but none seemed to notice that every few cycles, a few of the boys would vanish when their 'lady' had guests over.   It was on one of these 'dinner party' nights, when all the children are supposed to be sleeping, that Louis snuck out and spied on Lazard, no one was this kind for no reason. And he was right. The dinner party was a dinner party in every sense of the word, but the children were on the menu. The rich bastards opened their mouths and consumed everything of a person with a blinding light. At first, Louis thought they were simply monsters but then he learned about the food.   The food on this world was artificial and implanted with special chemicals to increase one's magical energy to its absolute maximum. This was unhealthy as it shortened their lifespan and would peremenatly deplete their magical energy soon, but Lazard made sure to host a dinner party often enough so that it didn't happen, allowing her and her guests to feed off of the massive amount of magical energy present in the children to slowly increase their own. Lazard was a farmer, fattening up her livestock to feed herself and her guests.   Louis learned this and tried to warn the others but prolonged consumption of the food had waned their sense and intelligence, they didn't even scream when they were devoured. He longed to stop her but Lazard had paid off serval high-ranking Commonwealth officials, as Louis saw many of them at her dinner parties. Escape was his only option but this was risky, when he first arrived, Lazard had him, and all her livestock, branded with 3 candy skulls on his back, he would have to run for the rest of his life as bounty hunters chased him.   Soon after this, some of the Helpers got ahold of Louis and forced him to eat to ensure he didn't die, planning to feed him to a delegate as an appetizer at a future dinner party. However, after having food and water back in his system, Louis's magical energy levels began to return to normal. This was a problem as he was born with an extremely large amount of energy, enough to let him survive off of it alone for nearly 3 years straight and still not run out. When Lazard learned of this she demanded he is fed every day, she would draw out all of his immense power and then consume him for herself.   Louis was spared this fate when he launched his escape plan, concealing himself in an empty gas container and being shipped off-world. He was discovered on the planet Ophellia where he ran into an Iron Knight at a dry dock.

Education

Louis was trained by his Master, Iron Lady Gallows who had discovered he was born with the Wooden Tome and had the magical energy to use ut efficiently. His training was composed mostly of delicate energy control and stamina training, with proper use of his power Louis could easily be molded into one of the strongest Knights the Order has seen in a long while.

Accomplishments & Achievements

I Give My Word

On one particularly dangerous Quest, Jean-Louis was defeated by the Queen's Hand of the Future War Empire and imprisoned inside a Prison Realm: False Paradice where he was seduced and sedated by the illustrious Kalypso Atlaseious. Although only a few months passed in real-time, Jean-Louis experienced five years in the realm with Kalypso. She came to truly love him but this served to be her downfall. Kalypso has been imprisoned here for eons by her father, King Atlas, for a crime she can't even recall. Whenever a man is brought to her, if she falls in love with him, his memories return and he will want to leave, an endless cycle of pain ensues.

Jean-Louis recalled who he was and did leave Kalypso but vowed to return by the River Styx. Jean-Louis would keep his word and return to the Realm some years later on his own accord, defeating King Atlas and freeing Kalypso from her eons-long torment. This was no easy feat and it nearly cost Jean-Louis his life, but he vowed to free the woman he loved, even if it cost him his life.

Founding of House Boudreaux

The Boudreaux was relatively unknown up until Jean-Louis came into his prime as a Knight of the Iron Banner. He gained notoriety for his many exploits and adventures with the Starside Outriders and for carrying the Wood Tome, which was thought to have been lost to the ages. This was the creation of a new Great Magical House, House Boudreaux who became known for their use of the Wood Tome and their excess of Magical Energy. Jean-Louis was credited with founding this House and is considered the "First of his Line",  excluding his parents who eagerly sold him away to cover their own debts.

Mental Trauma

During his time as a slave on Pays de Rêve, 'Dreamland', Jean-Louis and the other slave children were rewarded with candy and sweets for good behavior. This food was also like the rest of the food on this world, implanted with special chemicals to increase one's magical energy to its absolute maximum, damaging the body in the process. As a result of this Jean-Louis does not like sweets or candy, or anything or anyone overly nice or kind. He views them as dangerous enemies hiding their true motives, hiding behind a mask. To this end, he hates liars, to lie to Jean-Louis is the greatest offense in his eyes.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Jean-Louis is driven by the singular goal of protecting his new family, originally built off of the false notion that he needed to provide some function or purpose for them to still want him. He later corrected this way of thinking, knowing his brothers would still accept him even if he didn't measure up all the time. This mentality was originally born from the abandonment of his parents who gave him away to Dreamland, something he internalized as his failure to some degree.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Jean-Louis is the Chapter Chef, he loves to cook and try new foods whenever he can, often going out of his way to make sure the Fortress of 3 Suns is well equipped for long voyages with tasty new foods to keep his fellow Knight's energy and spirit up. He has a Grimoire dedicated to cooking as everyone has their own special dietary needs, for example, Sobizel cannot have dairy products and Haroli is a vegetarian. He keeps all of this in mind when preparing food for everyone or will make custom meals.    He usually cooks alone but sometimes the others will join him in the mess hall, they couldn't cook their way out of an open cardboard box and the meals are a far cry from his usual cuisine, but he enjoys spending time with his friends and sharing this part of himself with them.
