Vitale Repose

Transmission & Vectors

Induced intentionally.

Causes

The condition is brought on by consuming a specially prepared tea.

Symptoms

The subject enters a coma-like state within an hour of consuming the tea. Heart rate drops to around two beats per minute, breathing slows until a single breath takes several minutes, and non-essential organ systems, such as the digestive tract, are put in stasis. This state lasts between two days and a few weeks, depending on the severity of the affliction. During this time, the body internalizes mana generation to heal and rejuvenate.

Prognosis

The disease being treated is cured after Vitale Repose has run its course, assuming the ailment is naturally occurring. Magical ailments vary as widely as magic itself and there is no guarantee the Repose will be sufficient. Additionally, it is known that those who are Unbound have a slightly different reaction to the Repose, due to the inability to naturally retain mana. They typically take twice as long to recover and have been known to have what are essentially allergic reactions to the potion. It is unknown what effects inducing the Repose on another race might be.

History

The Elven culture of living in harmony with nature includes allowing the microbes that cause disease to live and thrive, as well as creatures that cause various afflictions. Druids spent a great deal of time curing individuals who were suffering from harmful encounters. To make the process easier to access for the widely scattered Elven people, a plant was bred and magically altered to induce a restorative sleep that would replace the necessity of a Druid traveling potentially hundreds of miles to perform the ritual on a single individual. This plant became known as the Blue-Heart Bloom. This plant's distilled extract was then added to a sedative herbal tea.
