WorldEmber Prep 2022

We're almost at WorldEmber and I'm really excited about it! I've never done it before, and this will be my second World Anvil challenge. I'm definitely going to prepare for it better than I did for Spooktober, especially cause I'm not the greatest at planning stuff beforehand. So I'll try to complete the homework tasks when I'm not revising.

WorldEmber Homework

Week 1: Goals

A large part of my book is set in Dustbane City in Galilea, and I've realised I know very little about it. This is mainly because I haven't written much about it. So my main goal for WorldEmber will be to flesh out the culture, locations and factions in Dustbane City. This should help me understand my story better, so it's not all over the place when I'm writing. I also plan on fleshing out the rest of Galilea if I get writer's block or I'm not as motivated.   While I'd love to write over 10K words, I still need to remind myself I'm at school, so I need to take time off to revise. So for now, I won't go too big. But we'll see what happens when WorldEmber comes around.

Week 2: Mini-Meta

Scope

For WorldEmber, I want to focus on Dustbane City, as that's where most of my story takes place! If I get bored or I have writer's block, I also plan on expanding the country of Galilea, since I haven't got much written about it. I might also change its name later on because the Galileans don't come from the Galilea I've created on Earth.

Themes

Since I don't know that much about Dustbane, it's hard to say what its themes would be. I think the main one will be "Mistakes & Forgiveness", as that's what's in my meta and is the main theme of my story. That theme's about how people's mistakes can come back to haunt them later on in life. The other theme I want to focus on is "Discovery" and "Mystery" because there's a lot of history about humans and humanoids that I want to uncover!

Mood

My sources of inspiration are Harry Potter, The Mortal Instruments (Shadowhunters) and HTTYD for the Discovery/Mystery themes. Other sources include the MCU (particularly Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Infinity War), ATLA/LoK, and Lorien Legacies.

Week 3: Organisation

Tags

I've been using tags ever since I joined World Anvil! They're great for grouping multiple articles together, even if they don't belong to a specific category. Even before I've written an article, chances are I've already tagged it!

Categories

Categories, on the other hand, I've had more trouble with since the beginning. I've changed how I group articles so I'm not left with any uncategorised articles at the bottom of my world. I'm quite happy with how they look now, but I know they need some work!

Was the homework helpful?

Yes it was! Without it, I'd probably be lost and wouldn't have an achievable goal in mind.

Week 4: Presentation

I've started using Unsplash, Midjourney and Hero Forge to add more pictures to my articles, but I definitely need more! Maybe December will also be my art-collecting month!
