Great Tungan War
The Great Tungan War was a period of immense conflict between the Federation of Earth-Originating Peoples and the Tungan Nation. While considered an overwhelming victory for the Federation, it was still devastating and costly, and killed more humans than any conflict except the Federation Civil War.
Background
While the Federation had always floated the idea of a punitive expedition into Tungan space, for various economic and logistical reasons, they had never done so. However, the Sixth Tungan Incursion catalyzed a great deal of internal strife within the Federation, and plans to engage the Tungan navy in their own space were being drafted as early as 2510. When Kasparas Maille was elected General Secretary, he promised to redeem the inefficient and bungling Federation military through an invasion of Tungan space. His Secretaryship saw an enormous military buildup. When the Tungans raided for a seventh time, they were turned back by forces garrisoned at the frontier. The War
In 2566, Federation fleets invaded Tungan space. They raided and bombed stations, colonies, and planets, and fled before the Tungans could muster their own fleet. For the next several years, Federation fleets traveled by to Federation space, pursued by the Tungan high fleet. When they arrived, both fleets manuevered for battle positions, before finally engaging in combat in Arzu . At Arzu, the Federation made several false retreats to overextend the Tungan fleet. The Tungan forces were eventually isolated from each other and destroyed, crippling the Tungan navy. The Conflict
