The Astrian Kingdom

The old, human Astrian Empire bloodied eastern Nikrea's history. It was hated for invasions and atrocities upon its neighbours, and when the wars were finally over justified yet merciless vengeance could be handled. The elves found their retribution by bifurcating Old Astria into the modern Astrian Kingdom and the withering nation of Aplos that we know today. The sprites were less forgiving, and instead vouched for humans to be imprisoned in their corner of the continent forever; that way they could do no harm to anyone but themselves. Of course this meant that no other races would ever tap into Astria's literal mountains of resources, but it was better that than another Astrian Empire.

Structure

The King and his council are the highest power in Astria. Their decisions determine the ruling of the nobles, who in turn rule over the common people. To protect the Council's integrity, great care is taken with a monarch's royal education to ensure any King or Queen is worthy of their position. And likewise, those chosen for the Council are selected through their aptitude alone. Control and peace is preserved and regulated, but the Council is known for placing itself on a pedestal above all else: Another reason for outsiders to abhor humans for their greed.

Public Agenda

Humans are still eschewed by the rest of the world and Astria loathes it. Compared to the other human nation of Aplos, they dominate in every quantifiable field. Yet Astria is sidelined by the way of unjust and farcical taboos. The nation is hunting for a way to break back into the international political theatre and glut itself with trade once more, and many dread just how far it will go to get there.

Assets

Only Catamain has better access to subterranean treasures than Astria. Unfortunately, and unlike Catamain, Astria has little use for Flare Objects because there are very few Flare-tethered people. Therefore, although the mass of Flare Objects Drukh receives from Catamain is intimidating, for Astria, a society of humans that can only trade with the alike, the horde is useless. The only hope of a good use of them lies with the sciences.   Moreover, Psyche tethers, much like Life tethers, cannot be bolstered via Objects at all. This is both a boon that lowers military expenses, and a catalyst for crime. Their solution has been to uphold the tightest laws of any country and strangle the evil out of the populace. Such a practice breeds tyrants, stifles freedoms, and makes taxes soar. However the Royal Council justifies it by make exhibition of their sister Aplos, who has crime syndicates stronger than her monarchy.
