Flutterhum

Before the westward reaches of the Keylsa Jungle, is the land for those freer than even those of the Drukh Theocracy, despite how vehemently those in Drukh would disagree. Helped by Sky sand and Sky tethers many sprites sail through the air with divine elegance, able to travel an expansive area with more freedom and ease than members of the other races could imagine. The reason there are no laws is that there is no central governance and instead the area is split between the bloodlines that have the most power. Sprites with hard scaly wings are revered for their power and toughness, those with vibrant bird-like wings form the respected middle class, and those with insect or bat wings are treated with respect and care by no one but their own. Notably, this is a belief almost everyone everywhere in the hierarchy follows and respects, it is just the way of life. Those who are not sprites in Flutterhum can expect to be treated with respect but cannot make use of the work of the slave classes.

Demography and Population

There are twelve million residents within Flutterhum, of which around ten million are sprites. The populations of different Sprite ethnicities within Flutterhum are:
  • One million Glami
  • Six million Pepi
  • Three million Entomi
Glami are the upper class for those born into powerful dynasties, Pepi are the middle class of those with colourful bird-like wings, and Entomi are the lower class home to the Sprites with undesirable features such as insect or bat wings.

Territories

Nestfall is Flutterhum's territory over a thousand miles away in the east and is the outpost for maintaining control over the Sky Lucids on that side of the continent. When off their consecutive years of duty, Lucid Guardians in the east can spend time at Nestfall to have a more normal and less isolated life of helping with cross-continental messaging, exporting feathers for trade, fishing, and keeping international peace.

Military

Besides the Lucid Guardians Flutterhum has no military. This is because the Sky Lucids are such an effective deterrent that no country dares move against Flutterhum even though the weaponisation of Sky Lucids is considered a villainy.

Foreign Relations

For just over five hundred years Flutterhum has stayed passive in conflicts and has had such peace secured with the ultimate power - control over the Roar Barriers.   In the Lucid War five hundred years ago a revelation was made by the now dead Noriath Republic: The Roar Barriers (Barriers that protected from Emperor Mountain's explosion in the sky: Desmunda's equivalent of a sun, without the vacuum of space to protect the land.) couldn't just exist on their own, there was something creating and sustaining them. Only three years later this was confirmed by the first Sky Lucid being discovered within the earth, a massive frosted crystal that could act as the most powerful Sky tether in existence. Unfortunately, this marvel was found near the capital of the Republic, and what followed was the greatest tragedy in Desmunda. A spy serving the Drukh Theocracy got to the artefact and was able to maim it at the cost of his life - and the Roar Barrier over Stardenn fell. Hundreds of thousands were deafened in the first day, millions more over the next week. Nobody knew what was happening, but the smart ones ran to safety - even though they had no clue where safety was. Many did reach the neighbouring Roar Barriers, but they could not pass through. This was the real catastrophe, a third of the nation's entire population was trapped outside the continent's Roar Barriers and went through hell. By the time a new Roar Barrier was put into place years later, nearly everyone was stone deaf, tens of thousands were dead, and the leading rulers of the nation had all long since committed suicide.   To stop any repeats of this, disrupting Roar Barriers was made a war crime and Flutterhum sent impartial ambassadors known as Lucid Guardians to every Sky Lucid on the planet. In order to ensure there would never be interference from Flutterhum or bias from the Lucid Guardians, Lucid Guardians live with their Sky Lucid in Lucid Vaults and have absolutely no outside communication. Their food is grown within the Vault, their water comes from the Vault, and they never leave the Vault. Naturally, international politics are never as stable as they seem and some have doubts towards Flutterhum's apparent yearning for peace. However friendly the country of sprites is, they have a dagger to the throats of every nation besides Catamain.

Trade & Transport

As followers of Foundationism, a large portion of the merchants in Flutterhum make use of trading for Objects to sell to the people. In the north Ocean Objects can be obtained from the Grand Mouth, the Keylsa Jungle to the west and south provides a wide array of different possible Life Objects, even though the elves try to stop them being taken, and Flare Objects can be traded through Argentia. Catamain does generally have better gems to use for Flare tethers of course, but the nations are not on great terms.
