Foundationism

Many in Desmunda worship those which are believed to be the Fundamentals of existence- Flare, Ocean, Sky, Psyche, and Life. After all, these are the very real aspects that make Desmunda, and its inhabitants lives, possible by providing: warmth and light, water, air, thought, and life itself, respectively. It varies from country to country and sect to sect which Fundamentals are seen as more important or if any are at all, but the wide consensus is that without any one of the Five Fundamentals there would be no such thing as the conscious condition.
Foundationism limits itself at five Fundamentals because obviously there are only five Fundamentals. Despite many other factors, such as the inexplicable way everything falls downwards, also seeming required for the existence of intelligent races, nothing is extraordinary about them. The difference lies in that it is impossible to create a tether to and draw magic from anything but the five Fundamentals. For example, any attempt to create a newborn child tethered to gravity will fail- not that any great sages have been able to design a system to accomplish this. On the other hand, everyone to ever be born ends up linked to one of the actual Fundamentals in some capacity, thus proving at the very least that the five Fundamentals are special magically.
