Victoria House

Victoria House is the freshman house for students at Faraday School for Wizards. It is four floors high and painted white on the outside to separate it from the other houses.   The main doors of Victoria House lead into a large common area, furnished with wooden tables and chairs, as well as second-hand, but good quality couches. Against one far wall is a radio. To the left is an office with a front desk, where a student watches the door to see who goes in and out. Any mail to students in Victoria House is also held here. To the right is the office of the Staff Head of House. Past these rooms are doorways to the halls where bathrooms and student rooms are found. At the end of each hallway is another door to the outside.   The upper floors of the building each contain a hallway going both directions, leading to student rooms. The left and right hallways of the third and fourth floors as well as the right hallway of the second floor each have a colored stripe on the wall signifying one of the five houses of the upperclassmen in Faraday. This is because the building was originally the only student house at Faraday, with the first floor and the left hall of the second for freshmen and the other halls housing the students of the other houses. As the school grew in size, new buildings were built for the other houses, and Victoria House became exclusively for freshmen. Each hall of the upper floors has an apartment at the end of it, for a staff member. Though the left side apartment on the second floor, always used by the Staff Head of Victoria House, is still used as such. The others are currently used only for storage. This is, unfortunately, the reason for the gendered hallways in the student houses. With the rooms no longer divided by house, the staff divided them by gender, with the boys' halls on the left and girls' halls on the right. Despite several student stories, this is also the reason Victoria House is the only student house that does not have a kitchen. The laundry room is in the basement.
