Verto is The Body of
the Crows, serving as the organization's overall 2nd in command as well as head of their smuggling division. If someone wants to get goods without worrying about
Haven City's infamous taxes, Verto's people are the best for the job. Naturally, this also extends to illegal goods that would never make it past any of the city's legitmate entrances. Drugs, outlawed magic, exotic animals, and more all pass in and out of the city under Verto's watchful eye. Those who know Verto claim he hails from an unspecified land far to the north, as he indeed appears to be the only snow elf in all of
Haven City.
Pre-Campaign
At some point prior to the
Thaig brothers advertising their expedition in
Haven City, Verto began to grow concerned about one of his subordinates.
The Crows have a history of leaders being offed and replaced by subordinates who could do the job better, and
one of Verto's underlings seemed to have the potential to do just that to him. He ordered several of his trustworthy subordinates to take
the man into the
Underdark on the pretense of capturing exotic creatures to sell in the city. They returned to report they had killed him in a cave-in, just as planned. This left Verto unaware that
Jake F. Statefarm had survived the assassination attempt and would be coming for revenge.
Welcome to Haven City Arc
Verto was seen in the company of
Marchioness Eve as
the Crows searched the city in force for the adventurers who had been causing them trouble. He quickly demonstrated his skill as some sort of caster, conjuring a sword of ice to strike
Elycia Mirais before firing a ray of frost spell at
Jake, whom Verto did not recognize under his mask. The adventurers (especially
Jake) focused most of their attacks on Verto after
Elycia Mirais forced him to retreat with a dissonant whispers spell. Verto recovered from some of his injuries with a healing potion as
Eve was forced to retreat when her condition flared up. She ordered him to finish
Elycia after the elven bard insulted her, though
Elycia managed to escape as
Verto magically alerted
Crows up ahead to be on the lookout for the adventurers.
