Marchioness Eve

Marchioness Eve is the Head of the Crows, leader of organized crime in Haven City and one of the most powerful criminal figures on Nexus. Though her status is something of an open secret, she holds far too much power and influence for the Haven City Government to do much about her activities. Eve knows exactly where the line is that would force officials to take action against her and makes sure to never cross it. In the meantime, whatever insurance she holds over the city's leaders stops them from taking drastic action against her unless she should ever choose to do something drastic herself first.   She rarely makes public appearances yet her infrequent outings tend to cause everyone else present to hold their breath wherever she goes, save for those too ill informed to know who she is. These appearances typically take place in the city's high-end taverns that feature live music, which Eve seems to have a great appreciation for. Several prominent bards in Haven City can attribute their claim to fame to Eve's support.   During these outings, she is generally seen smoking from a long cigarette holder and almost always has her pet crow, Diaval, on one of her shoulders.

Week Two

Leh'ct was the first adventurer to set eyes on Eve, eight of them as he eavesdropped on her and Olympius as they walked into a Crow via his spider familiar. While the spider hid in a corner, spinning a web and doing other innocent spider things, the two Crows walked into the room mid conversation discussing improvements to security. Eve had her pet crow Diaval sitting on her shoulder and smoked from a long cigarette holder while they talked. Evidentially, their former head of security had been relieved: Eve & Olympius' conversation
Olympius: "...ready moved everything important out while we improve security. Speaking of which..."
Eve: "Our head of security has been retired. His second, Calindor, is in charge now. Apparently, he suggested we have greater security on the evening of the raid and was ignored."
Olympius: "How do you know this?"
Eve: "Calindor came directly to me after the fact."
Olympius: "He went above his superior's head?"
Eve, tracing the fingernail of her pointer finger across her throat: "Just under it, actually. Oh, don't look at me like that. He was right, and in this particular instance I applaud such initiative."

Before they could say more, Diaval noticed Leh'ct's spying spider and decided it looked delicious. The spider was forced to flee from the hungry crow, unable to hear the rest of conversation.

Week Five

Meeting with Leh'ct

After an informant told the Crows about a mysterious person feeding the masses that they were squeezing to get information on the people who hit their warehouses, Eve got the sense there might be a connection. Someone willing to go against the Crows was possibly a do-gooder type, who would want to help people however they could. The informant provided a goodberry left by the mysterious helper, which made Eve recall that unusual spider Diaval had identified as magical weeks before. Between this and a persistent urban legend she'd heard about a mule-sized spider creeping around town, the pieces began to fall into place in her calculating mind. She had Calindor use the berry to scry the person who made it, Leh'ct, and contacted the bounty hunter "Black Hand" Kelly to bring the boy in.   Eve was waiting in her office when they arrived, Kelly having used his magic to put Leh'ct under a suggestion charm. She wanted to trade questions with the boy and he earned a smirk when he told her, "Ladies first." She ordered food to be brought to them before asking what Leh'ct knew about Elycia Mirais. The boy dodged this question, which Eve let slide for the time being, and her next was whether he'd ever considered joining the Crows. She was disappointed though not surprised to hear he had not, informing him she was interested in his stealth skills. In particular, in his ability to be act as a fly ("or a spider", as she put it) on the wall.   The conversation was laced with subtle nods at just how dangerous Eve was, and by extension how much danger Leh'ct was presently in. When she felt the Q&A session was done, she laid out her intentions to him. Leh'ct would stay in her home as a guest until the next day, at which point he would accompany her to meet his adventuring companions for an introduction. And that if he attempted to cause any trouble for herself or any of her subordinates, she would order men she had on standby to burn the orphanarium he lived in to the ground.   This threat ended up being the straw that broke the camel's back for Leh'ct. He baited Eve into counterspelling a simple healing spell before unleashing more powerful magic, causing plants he'd hidden around her mansion to explode into growth. As the boy fled atop his mount, Eve appeared behind him in a cloud of mist and brandished a Wand of Magic Missiles. She targeted him with the entirety of its magic, blasting the boy with a near-fatal dose of raw magic even as the wand's power grew unstable and it crumbled to ash in her hands. The loss of the wand only served to deepen her ire towards the boy as she used a sending spell to order her men to burn the orphanarium.

Pursuing the Adventurers

Eve sent Diaval to chase down and finish off Leh'ct as she stalked back to her mansion, briefly assisting in getting her servants who could not free themselves to safety. When Diaval returned to report his failure to catch the boy, she left the rescue efforts to him and organized the rest of the Crow leaders to send out a full alert and pursue the adventurers who had robbed them. Eve herself was accompanied by Verto and the pair were the first (and only) Crows who managed to locate the fleeing adventurers.   She spotted a globe of darkness moving across the rooftops while running towards the sound of a whistle blown by a Crow patrol. Knowing drow could innately use such magic and that Leh'ct was the only known drow in Haven City, she dispelled it to reveal the fleeing adventurers. Eve teleported herself and Verto to the rooftop with a dimension door spell before cutting a rope that only half the adventurers had managed to flee across. She effortlessly deflected Leh'ct's efforts to hamper her with faerie fire and levitate spells before retaliating with a fireball spell when several of the adventurers injured Verto. She also noticed Jake's hatred of Verto and openly questioned whether the two knew each other.   One by one, the adventurers retreated until only Elycia Mirais was left. Seeing the target she was originally interested in suddenly alone, Eve chose to pause her violence to talk to the elf. While her tone and choice of words was condescending and a bit mocking, it quickly became clear to Elycia that Eve was flirting with her. Eve also revealed that she was the one who had sent the Dress of Many Pockets that Elycia was wearing, indicating that she had been aware of and enamored with the bard for some time. Elycia responded with nothing but insults, irking Eve enough to resume her violence.   But just as she raised her sword to strike, Eve cried out as the flesh on her arm began to bubble like water in a boiling pot. She grunted, "No, not now!" as ██████████████████████████████████████████████████████████. Elycia continued to mock Eve and the lust in Eve's eyes was replaced by pure rage as she glared daggers at the foolish elf. Much as she now desired to deal with Elycia herself, she had no choice but to order Verto to finish her as she herself teleported away with a word. As ██████████████████████, Eve stewed ██████████ and made a vow to ███████████████████████████ her new top priority.
