Selûne, the Moon Goddess

Selûne, goddess of the moon and stars, is among the most ancient of deities still worshipped across the realms today. Her highest creed is equality, encouraging her worshippers to treat all living creatures with acceptance. She is a goddess of many forms and many moods as Selûne is as ever changing as the cycles of the moon. But whatever her current form, Selûne is always caring and accepting of her followers and fiercely protective when battling against evil. This has put her into conflict with many evil deities, chiefly among them her own sister Shar, Mistress of the Night. Selûne is also one of the most direct deities when dealing with mortals; she often bestows gifts upon her faithful and it is said that she never fails to listen to a prayer.

Adventures Ahoy Campaign

2,500 years ago, Selûne was the patron deity of the adventurer Althea Filanes. The moon goddess was one of the most popular deities in Althea's homeland, the Ashes Archipelago, where many sailors navigated using the goddess' stars in the night sky. Early in her adventures, Althea was aided by Selûne in a time of great danger. The adventurer had attempted to fight a group of pirates alone to prevent them from attacking a town, but was forced to flee when overwhelmed by their sheer numbers. The pirates pursued, and as Althea ran the clouds broke and a beam of moonlight shone on a hidden crevice in front of her. Recognizing the sign from Selûne, Althea was able to hide in the crevice and avoid the pirates chasing her.

Shadows Unleashed Campaign

In modern times, Selûne still saw a great deal of worship by the humanoid races of Nexus. This includes a small sect of individuals in a hidden lycanthrope village located in the Great Sengorian Forest, south of the Kingdom of Lothal. Though most of the lycanthropes worship whichever Animal Lord most closely resembles their beast form, a number of them instead worship the goddess of the moon linked to their transformative powers.

Uncovering the Underdark Campaign

20 years after the Morlocks defeat, Selûne mysteriously vanished. The reason for this is unknown; her worshippers still offered her prayers in abundance and no other deity has claimed responsibility nor offered an explanation for the moon goddess' absence. Where she disappeared to, and why, is a hot topic of scholarly debate among theists. With Selûne gone, the elven goddess Sehanine Moonbow, the Lady of Dreams, has taken the moon into her divine domain. It is she, rather than Selûne, who has become the primary moon deity on Nexus by the time of the events that began in Haven City ten years after Selûne's departure.
