Glasya, Archduchess of Malbolge

Glasya is the archduchess of Malbolge, sixth of the Nine Hells. It is not a title she has always held, but even before then she was already well-known throughout the realms as the daughter of Asmodeus. She inherited her father's skills as a schemer and is widely regarded as the most unpredictable devil in the infernal courts. That being said, she possesses a whimsical nature and prone to bouts of mischief. Glasya's skill for finding loopholes and exploiting the letter of the law to her own advantage is second to none, even in deals with other devils. Most famously, she once found a way to legally used counterfeit currency to purchase a great number of souls while leaving the seller with worthless coin. This incident directly resulted in her father appointing her as archduchess of Malbolge, hoping that the distraction of her new responsibilities managing the Sixth Hell would keep her seemingly limitless ambition in check.

Early Nexus History

Glasya played a key part in Nexus history during the Reckoning, a period where several archdevils sought to overthrow Asmodeus for rulership of the Nine Hells. The archdevil Moloch hid an army of followers on Nexus, intending to summon them as reinforcements during the upcoming battle. When Moloch left his army in pursuit of the Quintus Gems, Glasya arrived with her own legions and decimated Moloch's forces. Though she learned of the Quintus Gems during this event, she showed little interest in the "baubles". The same could not be said for one of her soldiers, Dunames.   Dunames was convinced that the Quintus Gems could tip the balance of the Blood War in the devils favor against their demon enemies. She begged Glasya to let her stay and search for them, only to be rebuked since there were now only seven gems. Without a full set of eight, they could never be united to their full power and Glasya considered them no more special than any other sufficiently powerful magic item. Nonetheless, she allowed Dunames to keep an eye on Nexus in case that situation ever changed. It would be nearly 4,000 years before Dunames hopes were finally fulfilled when the White Gem split in two and the gems total number once again numbered eight.

Quest for the Quintus Gems Campaign

Having considered the matter long since closed, Glasya did not provide any other devils for Dunames to work with when Dunames asked permission to travel to Nexus and find the gems. She did, however, provide her servant with a reasonable (by archdevil standards) amount of currency to fund the expedition. Dunames misinterpreted Glasya's lack of interest as a discreet way of saying "keep this secret from other devils". She also mistook it as a sign of good faith when Glasya promised to promote her to a higher rank of devil once she secured her first Quintus Gem. Truly, Glasya expected this to be such a fools errand that Dunames would utterly fail and give Glasya a reason to reprimand her for entertainment.   Glasya eventually contacted Dunames for a status report and told her servant she had one week to produce results of would be recalled and reassigned to other duties. Much to her surprise, Dunames succeeded in securing the Red Quintus Gem on the day of the deadline and filled the now attentive Glasya in fully on her plan to gather a large city's worth of souls. Finally impressed with her servant, Glasya congratulated Dunames on her success thus far and informed the erinyes that she would now commit any infernal troops Dunames required to this plan.   Dunames executed the final stages of her plan a few months later, using the Red Quintus Gem to open a gate to the Nine Hells in the city of Lakeview and surround its walls with a dome of fire. Devils, cultists, and yugoloth mercenaries marched through the city that Dunames had slowly corrupted with sin, slaying the inhabitants and sending their souls into the River Styx to become devils. However, she was unaware that the adventurer team the Barrel Boys, enemies and a constant thorn in Dunames' side, were already inside the city. Wielding Quintus Gems of their own, the adventurers fought they way across the city, slaying Dunames lieutenants before defeating her in combat.   Having observed Dunames' failure, Glasya came through the portal herself and claimed the Red Quintus Gem before the adventurers had an opportunity to recover it. Glasya considered fighting the battleworn adventurers herself to claim the gems they carried, but decided against it when she saw a dwarf whom she recognized as the disguised Dumathoin, Dwarven God of Mining, observing them. She returned to her realm with the gem and a good number of fresh souls in hand, not paying a second thought to the dead Dunames and somewhat grateful she now wouldn't need to worry about a potentially overambitious subordinate.

Dark Ladies & Devilish Dealings

33 years later, Glasya was informed that Lady Kemlar had come to her palace requesting an audience. Loosely aware of the information broker's reputation, Glasya granted the requested audience. Lady Kemlar explained she had come seeking an infernal lawyer to represent her acqaintence Sweetmeat, who was currently being held awaiting trial on Mount Celestia. Glasya was curious why Lady Kemlar came to her specifically and Lady Kemlar explained it was due to Glasya's own reputation for finding loopholes in the law, a skill she believed would be critical during Sweetmeat's trial.   In exchange for this service, Lady Kemlar offered Glasya a soul coin containing the soul of the adventurer of Myster E. Recognizing the soul from their encounter during the Battle of Lakeview, Glasya accepted the offer with a few minor addendums after what she considered to be a politely appropriate length of time for such negotiations. As Lady Kemlar took her leave, Glasya pondered what she was really plotting and made a mental note to assign several of her agents to investigate.
