Academy of Korala

The Academy of Korala is the only formal school of magic in the Lhodos region, located in the northern part of the Kingdom of Meranne. Though the kingdom's citizens are prioritized when it comes time to process new applications, Korala is home to budding mages from across the world. The school is dedicated to the arcane arts and, as such, most of its students are wizards. Smaller departments handle the natural talents of sorcerers and the inquisitive inventions of artificers, and representatives of various bard colleges can be found here as well. Rumors circulate that even the often questioned abilities of warlocks can be refined in Korala's halls, though the academy has never officially acknowledged such claims.   The Academy is overseen by a Headmaster who sits at the head of a council composed of themself and the department heads. Alongside the teachers and students, Korala is often host to guests who come from far and wide seeking access to the academy's renowned library and resources. These visitors are carefully vetted and watched closely if permitted inside, for there have been many instances of those with dark designs trying to find information that would further their wicked plots within Korala's walls.   Politically, the Academy is a neutral entity. Though individuals, be they teachers or students, can choose to respond to calls of war, there is no government that can usher Korala as a whole to arms. This is much to the ire of certain members of the Kingdom of Meranne's government, who believe that Korala should be at their beck and call for residing on "their land". Despite the fact the Academy purchased the land it sits on at its founding, with an iron-clad contract that gave the Kingdom of Meranne the resources the (at the time) poor nation needed to grow into the power it is today.
