Tiforn (Tie-forn)

If you want a party, Tiforn is the place to be - just watch your wallet

" The glitz and glam on Tiforn makes it seem like a party town. First idiot tourist that smashes an endangered butterfly, though, can get five years on Lxile. The Tifornese take their animal population seriously.

- Camden Wynn
The first planet terraformed in the Alalus System once it was settled. It is the closest planet to New Terra (now Daant Arga) and gained the second-highest population in the system before The Great Collapse. While it also became largely a city planet like Daant Arga, large swathes of land were deliberately kept free of construction on Tiforn by the planetary government. That decision is primarily the only thing that kept the planet functioning in the wake of the Collapse.   Before and after the Collapse], it has largely been a place focused on entertainment. Anything one could want to do to have a good time could be found somewhere in one of the massive cities. While the entertainment isn't quite as glitzy as it used to be before the Collapse, Tiforn is definitely still the place to go for it.

Geography

Although much of the planet is taken up by sprawling cityscapes, the government of Tiforn in the early years of Alalus' occupation saw the direction that New Terra was going. In a wise move, they laid down immoveable laws that kept large swathes of land on the planet as untouchable (inspired, in part, by old Terran history and the establishment of the National Park System in the old United States). While there have been a few over the years to test these laws, they have never been broken. The only time these lands were used for a direct purpose beyond preservation of nature was directly after the Collapse, when tens of thousands of acres were converted into fields in order to feed a population suddenly cut off outside of their own planet. After travel lanes were restablished and the need gone, those fields were allowed to return to their wild state.   In modern times, Tiforn is probably half city and half wild land. Several cities have been abandoned since the Collapse and were reclaimed by the lands around them, making them havens for both those looking to run from the law or explorers. These also now provide refuge for the various fauna on the planet.

Flora & Fauna

As the first terraformed planet in the system, Tiforn is the home to many old Terran species. Because its development had been so tightly controlled to make it a mirror to Earth, it made the best place to begin the development of the embryoes that came with the New Terra Mission. While many populations were shipped to other planets in the then fledgling system - either to start their herds or to attempt cross-breeding with natural populations of similar animals - Tiforn still maintains almost all examples of the 1.2 million species of animal and plants that came from Old Terra.

Tourism

Out of the eight planets in the Alalus System, Tiforn receives the most tourist traffic. Anything and everything for entertainment can be found inside of its sprawling cities with only one exception: gambling. Sometime post-Collapse a law was passed outlawing all gambling on planet. Since then, a gambling mecca has grown on the larger of the planet's two moons, Cawr. Hosted in a large sealed base on the moon to protect visitors from the airless atmosphere of the moon, it receives almost as many visitors as Tiforn itself.   One of the major draws of Tiforn is the old world flora and fauna that remain on the planet. Visitors can buy multiple tours across the planet to take them on guided tours to see the unchanged populations. Scientists and historians doing research also frequently visit the planet for this reason.
