Meira Kinsail (Mee-rah Kin-sail)
Meira Kinsail was born with magic.
Most magic had been lost centuries before humanity had even left their home planet in the Milky Way to travel to the stars. Those who wielded it and the creatures who existed as a part of it had mostly remained hidden from those without magic, who outnumbered them 10 to 1 and had such fear of the unknown. While few magical creatures chose to leave the planet with humanity, many lines of humans that had magic running through them chose to travel to the stars.
Meira Kinsail was born from one of those bloodlines. Magic had not run in the family since several of its members had chosen to leave Earth behind but sometime during their traversal of the universe that changed.
Meira was born on Elysium Station, an outpost built at least two centuries before in the Volantis System in order to give living space for miners, other staff, and their families as there are no planets in the system that are capable of supporting a population. Since the technology capable of terraforming a planet was no longer available post-Collapse and past efforts in the system had failed, everything to support their lives exists on Elysium Station with the exception of whatever arrives on various transports.
At the age of seven, she accidentally set one of her toys on fire after another child who was a bully snatched it from her and refused to give it back to her. This was explained away as a freak accident on the station with some kind of backdraft and several more sort of freak explanations followed over the years. Her parents were highly suspect that there truly was something wrong with their daughter but always went along with the explanations that popped up to explain the unusual things that happened around her. Which left Meira to gain control of her abilities herself as, so far as she could tell from those around her and the few times she was able to search the galaxy-wide Link Network (which has very few access points on Elysium).
It wasn't until she was into her early twenties and had much more knowledge of machines that she delved deeper into the depths of the Link Network and found some small scraps of inform. That there had once been people who could do what she did and someone called them Mageborn. There were also a variety of postings about how magic worked as well as what a few purported to be actual summoning rituals, including one that would summon a familiar to bond with the mage doing the summoning.
Unfortunately, when she performed the ritual, she ended up with a minion of Hell bound to her as a familiar. One bright side of the arrangement, however, was that the imp Zyphil knew magic and said he could teach her now that he was bound to aid her.
Merger With Zyphil
One of the abilities she has discovered since inadvertently binding herself to the imp is the ability to combine their power together when they are both willing. When this occurs, Zyphil's physical form returns to the void between her plane and the Hell plane but his magic and mind meld atop her own. They are both fully present and capable of using her body as well as both of their power. What terrifies her about the merger is that she feels like she likes the feeling of power it gives her too much. When they are bound, Meira's general appearance doesn't change but her hair shifts to a mix of green, black, and tan (Zyphil's colors) and appears to move and flicker like fire, rising fully upright from her head. The only other indicators of the merger are that her eyes are no longer her natural gray but are slitted and yellow like Zyphil's, there are hints of green scales along her body, and her teeth become unnaturally sharp and pointed.Relationships
History
Zyphil was summoned and bound to Meira Kinsail when she was 22 Cycles. Since then he has aided her in her studies of magic.
Shared Secrets
Although they know no other Mageborn to hide it from, Meira and Zyphil would hide from anyone else that they are bound the way they are. Especially as with a simple incantation, they pair can combine their power. Such bindings with Hellspawn are frowned upon.
