Elysium Station

Don't let the rhetoric fool you. The companies rule Elysium, not the people.
— Crence Tinez
Originally conceived as a temporary space station, it became a permanent home when attempts to repopulate the system post-Collapse failed. Now it is the home of everyone who resides in the system and the shipping origin of a great deal of the mined materials in the Cluster.   The propaganda for Elysium likes to put it forth as a way to make more creds than a person could know what to do with. Such tales bring a lot of people to the station looking to get rich quick but they all soon discovered that there is no get rich quick scheme on Elysium. Mining is the lifeblood of the system and the mining companies made certain long ago to secure their dominance in the region. They keep the propaganda going to lure more workers into the system and it continues to work, despite many knowing it is now false.   Most mining in Volantis is run from two companies that have holdings on Elysium: Blackrock Industries and the Terra Firma Mining Group. There are a handful of other, smaller companies that fight tooth and nail over the yields in the system but most people who live there work for Blackrock or Terra Firma.   The station itself is massive, having grown a great deal from its original temporary shell. While sometimes described as a maze by those who do not live there, almost every inhabitant of the station would tell anyone that they know every inch of it (even though most of them are lying).   At the core of Elysium is the original temporary station meant to house a small crew of two hundred. In the years since its expansion, this core has tripled in size and now houses almost every main system on the station. The engines and repulsion systems that keep the station in place take up a good portion of the room in this section but the main section also houses a small trading depo, a massive cafeteria, storage units for the mining robots owned by smaller companies, cramped one-room office space for the more minor mining companies to recruit through, the station's security offices, the main controls for station security and life support, and the public hangar bay.   From four points off of this core are four massive wings. Due to the size of their respective companies, Blackrock Industries and the Terra Firma Mining Group each own one of these wings. Though they do not have their own cafeteria, each company wind has storage for their company robots, living quarters for the miners and other staff, ore and gas processing facilities as well as packaging, and a small personal hangar. The other two wings on the station are a mix of backup systems for the main systems and living quarters for mining and other station personel who don't work for the two major mining companies.
