Salos Citadel Settlement in Nailara | World Anvil

Salos Citadel

Salos Citadel is a fortress located on a small island in the center of the Panari Waves. It bears no allegiance to any specific country, and was originally constructed in the late 3600s by a reclusive group of multinational individuals from Veczi, Bocrae, and Lenif.   It has acted as a place for the nations of Aswana, Lenif, and Bocrae to discuss turbulent matters on neutral ground.

Demographics

Though there are no formal requirements, the inhabitants of this citadel carefully choose any new members from the nearby nations. No one nation is allowed to have too much sway among their ranks - Vect members are particularly valued thanks to the fact they no longer share a claim on the lake.   The total number of people believed to be living in the expansive citadel is around six thousand. Nowhere near this count actively defend the citadel, however, and the citadel is filled with families.

Defences

The citadel is built atop a small but steep island near the center of the Panari Waves, and remains a marvel of architectural and military engineering. It is commonly known as Panari's Iron Fortress thanks to the unique metal plating on its exterior walls, which are already quite thick. Siege weapons dot its exterior, and nearly all of the island is fortified save for some simple docks at the island's base.   Though a formidable fortress already, most notable has been its ability to stay neutral. It is believed that the fortress may have years of supplies tucked away in the underground below the citadel, and it purchases more only once a year. These underground dungeons are said to be labyrinthian, and filled with traps that only the citadel's most loyal inhabitants know how to traverse.   Though little has changed about the citadel's exterior, it is known that the current head architect is a kobold named Gothri Oskom Veru, and the leader of the vanguard a man named Vijay Bjarni, who grew up in the citadel.

History

The Salos Citadel remained neutral throughout the Aswani Civil War, though it was the site of multiple naval battles. The sailors of each side staged their battles near the island in the hopes that any survivors may be able to swim to its shores. The citadel loomed over the battles, aiding neither side, and collected survivors from the wreckage.
