Aswana

<Azz-swa-na>

Aswana is a relatively new nation founded in 3923 EC following a declaration of independence from their parent nation of Bocrae. The civil war that erupted was long and bloody, but was the herald of a new and independent nation with deep pride in its history.

History

Aswana was formed from the eastern third of the nation of Bocrae in 3923 EC after declaring their independence. A violent civil war ensued, and though most fighting was concluded by 3929 EC, Bocrae did not officially end hostilities until 3924 EC.   The fledgling country has become a center of trade in northern Aisoa thanks to its easy of access from the south, and placement of its capital next to a great lake.

Trade & Transport

Prior to its secession from Bocrae, Aswana was the wealthiest portion of the nation thanks in large part to the cotton and linen it produced and exported. It receives trade caravans along an overland route with minor trade to the sea due to a lack of naval protection for merchants.   It has strong trade ties to Iccot, which aided Aswana during its war for independence. It maintains polite trade relations to the neighboring nations of Lenif and Veczi, which did not formally participate in the war, but whose neutrality greatly benefitted Aswana.   The nation remains highly specialized and previously relied on farms in Bocrae. It trades cloth to Iccot in exchange for grain, and to Veczi in exchange for animals and fur. There are some sources of metal in Aswana, but they are largely controlled by the government and military, and restricted to critical uses. It imports metal from Iccot.
