Minotaur Species in Nailara | World Anvil

Minotaur

Minotaurs are large, bull-headed humanoids primarily found in the Wildlands. Among their own culture, they are better known as minauri.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Minotaur are large humanoid creatures covered in shaggy fur, and stand between seven and nine feet tall. They have large forward curving horns atop their head, a short tail, and cloven hooved feet. They are generally quite muscular, and widely built even for their height and can weigh upwards of 700 pounds.   They have a face similar to a goat or bull, and are generally somewhat hunched over compared to other humanoids.   Minotaur fur generally comes in a variety of browns, grays, and blacks, but some rarer fur colors exist. Eye colors are particularly uniform, and are almost always a deep brown.   They are closely related to the caprek, and caprek-minotaur hybrids are fairly common.

Growth Rate & Stages

The average minotaur lifespan is about the same as humans, living to about 85 years old.

Ecology and Habitats

Minotaurs are particularly adept at navigating through visually similar areas, like the dense forests they are native to. Many have found that skill extends to mazes, cities, and tunnels. They are native to the forests of the Wildlands, and prior to the Sokolan Cataclysm they were relatively common in Sokol.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Minotaurs are native to the plains and forests surrounding the Calamest Mountains, and the Wildlands. They are rare outside of the Wildlands, but small settlements exist along the northern Great Forest, and in western Bocrae.   In modern times, they live almost exclusively among the caprek and in villages of The Watchers.   Prior to the Sokolan Cataclysm, minotaurs were a notable segment of the population of Sokol. It is believed that nearly half of the species, those south of the Calamest Mountains, were lost to the cataclysm. Most survivors rejoined The Watchers.
