Personal history

A bright and curious child, Katarine was naturally drawn to follow in her grandmother's footsteps. She began with learning to read fates in the cards, which she would do for caravan members and outsiders alike. At her grandmother's table, she also learned to play games of strategy and chance with those same cards. Her aptitude for magic revealed itself in her mid teens, when she began studying witchcraft.   Kat looked up to her uncle Gratien. He would entertain the whole caravan with tales of the glory of Sokol. He'd written a song about the noble warriors of the Ash Campaign winning back their homeland. She was sad but hopeful when he left 6 years ago, and devastated when Misri returned two years later in his stead. She has kept his knife close ever since, but all hope she felt for the Ash Campaign has turned to bitterness and cynicism.   Meino Caravan had been traveling through Bocrae for a few years, but when several members of Meino fell ill on the winter journey, the wagons have stopped in Slusk. It is there where Kat met 'Old Man' Baran Mani, the towns eccentric aging wizard.

The Three Point Kings

When the bloody murder of Slusk's mayor pointed all clues towards Baran Mani being the culprit, Kat joined with two other locals, Asi and Vikenti, to investigate the truth. This began their hunt of the elusive assassin known as The Iccotian, who they later learned had been hired by Three Point Kings leader Mirrin Laav to frame Baran.   The next few months of her life were spent dedicated to capturing the Iccotian and proving Baran Mani's innocence - a task that quickly unraveled into waging a full war against the criminal syndicate leader, aided by Mirrin's adoptive sister Maphira Laav.   With the aid of Warden Asof Ildar and dirid from the underdark, Katarine and her companions laid siege to the fortress of Nil Kuldohr and stopped Mirrin's plans, though he escaped. A vindictive and well connected wizard, Mirrin used the last of his reputation and resources to stage the kidnapping of the Meino caravan.

Ghost of Sokol

For most of her time as an adventurer, Katarine sought to find some clue as to the origin of the Sokolan Cataclysm. When she had finally developed her abilities enough, she reached out to the spirits of the Sokolan royal family. To her surprise, she made contact with the spirit of Nora Ghislane, though not as she was in life. A corrupted shell of what the royal princess once was, Nora was able to only answer a few short questions before warning that 'The Destroyer' had noticed her investigation.   Katarine was never able to contact Nora or any of the Ghislaine family again, and began her search for 'The Tower of the Scholar' that Nora had told her to seek for more answers.
