Halfling

Basic Information

Anatomy

Halflings are humanoids that largely resemble humans save for the fact that they stand at only about 3 feet tall and weigh about 40 to 50 pounds. They have pointed ears of a variety of lengths, a trait that is passed down genetically. Halflings have a smaller variety of skin tones than humans, ranging from pale to tan often with a ruddy undertone. They tend towards leaner, more slender builds that - despite their size - are still quite strong. Halflings have larger feet and hands relative to their size compared to humans, a trait believed to be developed thanks to the halflings origin in the Riverlands where it helped them swim better.

Genetics and Reproduction

Halflings tend towards larger families, and twins and triplets are more common than a singular child. Most halflings only have one set of children, though many that have only one child at first often try again.

Growth Rate & Stages

Halflings mature slightly slower than humans, reaching full maturity at about 20 years of age. Most halflings can live well past 150 years old.

Ecology and Habitats

Halflings appear to have originated in what is now Wejnazeer, which continues to have the largest halfling populace to this day. Old halfling ruins and artifacts are almost without fail located near rivers and wetlands.

Civilization and Culture

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Relations between Halfling communities and countries and other humanoid civilizations has been somewhat strained in the past few hundred years, and halfling communities in the Riverlands have tended towards isolationism. Both diplomats and historians attribute this to the dangers war poses to halflings compared to their physically larger neighbors. Though Wejnazeer and other predominantly halfling communities repelled invasions quite effectively, it was not without cost. With repeated betrayals in their history, the halflings of Aisoa learned the dangers of trusting outsiders.
