Feyfolk Species in Nailara | World Anvil

Feyfolk

"Apparently, even among the fey, the fey can be a bit too much to deal with. So we left."
— Unknown crowfolk
Feyfolk are an incredible diverse species of people with drastically animalistic appearances resembling mundane animals. While feyfolk have their own classifications and names for their subspecies in elvish, many outsiders simply refer to them by appending 'folk' to whatever animal they most resemble.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Feyfolk vary as wildly as the animals of the Great Forest, and it would be nearly impossible to categorize them all. Most share a humanoid structure with exaggerated animalistic features, such as having fur, tails, and a head resembling a particular animal.   Most frequently the Feyfolk resemble mammals, reptiles and birds, with exceedingly few resembling insects or fish.
Various standard 5th edition species are replaced with Feyfolk in this setting. This includes Tabaxi, Kenku, and Tortles. Some animal-like species developed completely separately, and are not feyfolk, such as Kobolds, Lizardfolk, and Aarakocra.

Genetics and Reproduction

Feyfolk of all kinds can produce offspring with each other. Most often the child takes the same sort of features as one of their parents, but occasionally a child is born resembling neither parent. This has lead to no shortage of confusion and chaos among feyfolk families, injecting a bit of fey trickery no matter where they find themselves.   Feyfolk tend to have a varying number of children based off of the particular type of feyfolks the parents are. Some are only able to have one or two children, while others have many more.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Despite their appearances often mirroring those of strictly carnivorous animals, all feyfolk are omnivorous.

Civilization and Culture

History

As long as the Great Forest has existed, feyfolk have slowly trickled from it. They have a presence in nearly every nation, but are most common in The Cradle just outside of the the Great Forest. Settlements comprised entirely of feyfolk tend to be rare, but the queendoms of Sordurland are the feyfolk's second home outside of the Great Forest.   Though travel to the Southern Corridor is difficult due to the Ash and the dangers of the Katarine Heights, many feyfolk still travel from their ancestral lands in the forests to see a civilization ruled by their own.
