Sakkan

The City of Circles

The city of circles. Seven colored walls carve the city into sections, each dwarfing the last in height. Warm orange paint begins to peel from the brown bricks of the outermost wall. Worn by a coalescence of age, weather, and sorrow. Inside, the city is as fractured as cracks webbed across ceramic. Ethnicities, classes, deities, allegiances, and families drown neighborhoods in millions of stale scars—hurt egos, enflamed arguments, and brutal atrocities puncture the chipped walls of Sakkan like wounds.

Demographics

From the most wretched poor to the most avaricious nobles, Sakkan is a city full of everything. In addition to providing defense and dividing Sakkan into categories, the walls of the city also act as divisions between classes and ethnicities. the shanties and the slums of the outer city are full of some of the most forlorn living conditions known to the Empire. Many areas such as Goblinton or the Cervid Slums are home to minority races that are vilified by the Shelitans. They're treated as if they had the Miasma and relegated to the scraps that the upper class leaves behind.   Meanwhile, areas like the Tri-Spires or Hillside provide homes to the richest denizens of the Azuvah Prairie and beyond. Hillside is characterized by decadence and partying. Normally consisting of Shelitans. The lavish lifestyles of the nobles in Sakkan are normally due to the political maneuvering and class pleasantries to get one of the five duchies ahead of the others. Generally, Emperor Almosin Malkut keeps them in a stalemate to ensure that there will be no in-fighting between the duchies.   Most people worship Raggeldyn in Sakkan and the influence of the House of Raggeldyn can be seen on every busy street or gloomy alleyway. Other than Avanim, this is where the restrictions for religious worship are most strict. The House of Raggeldyn's Inquisitorius keeps a close watch on the religious activity in the city to make sure that only the sanctioned gods are worshipped--and worshipped in the correct ways.

Government

As the capital of the Empire, Sakkan is run by Emperor Malkut, but he mostly looks over the big picture. The less important stuff is left to an oligarchy of people elected by the Dukes. The Ti'zava of Sakkan are some of the greatest in the army and Commandant Riven is like the Emperor's de facto right hand. The laws of Sakkan are strict, especially when it comes to religion. Because of past issues with religious insurgents and horrific cults like the Acolytes of the Prophet, the worship of many deities have been banned. The Dynian Inquisition also has a strong political influence in Sakkan and they call a lot of the shots, so heretic burning happens often.

Defences

If you distilled down the essence of Sakkan into one word, that word would likely be "defense." Sakkan is called the City of Circles because of the walls that circle its buildings. There are seven walls that are each painted a different color to make navigation simpler. (especially for the peasants that can't read) The walls of Sakkan mean a lot more than just protection, though. They also carve the city up into different areas. The outer walls are where the commoners live. In the middle are all the markets and artisans. In the center are the wealthy nobles.
