Njortan

To be Njortan is to belong to one of the many ethnicities encompassed within Joorduunim Major. The loosely aligned people have an array of differing belief structures but ultimately fit under the same banner through proximity, as well as lineage. While many of them maintain their deeper traditions, the invading Matronite forces has begun to shape the community at large to a small extent.   Given the wide array of ethnic backgrounds, most people lump them together as the regional identification "Njortan". On average Njortan are stereotyped as large, light skinned humans with an appetite for battle, and pagan ideologies. While they are indeed tall most of their other stereotypes are a byproduct of the harsh environment that Njortans live through on a daily basis. Their cultural practices dependent on a survivalist mentality.

Structure

Smaller regions present within Joorduunim Major are subject to rulership by an appointed Jarl. However they come into office, the individual is responsible for leading the settlement and a stretch of the surrounding territory that they are both able to protect and control. Usually the Jarl in question is appointed democratically, and thusly has the support of his or her people. Apart from the Jarl roles can differ greatly from settlement to settlement depending on the occupants that shaped it. As the surrounding landscape is often dangerous, communication, and order are lost as one moves further beyond civilized walls.

Public Agenda

The ultimate agenda shared between Njortan is a constant struggle for survival. Generally every Jarl will have their own different agendas. A common theme across the many aligns with the desire to hold power, and maintain independence of their city from the larger whole.

Military

Towns have formed loose militia for security purposes, as more often than not the local flora and fauna are not enough to live comfortably on for very long. Celestial occupation has hampered the need for some cultures to utilize these militia as they succumb to assimilation in return for protection.
