Disaster / Destruction
With Julian captured, the group makes a final desperate assault on Amble Tower to both save their friend and destroy the portal to the Collective Unconscious
The group would search a little longer for Julian but it was no use. He was gone. Not only that, the warehouse they had made home was burned down. Maya's pictures that made the dusty old building feel like home were almost completely burned, Chris's mystery novels and AKane's blueprints were reduced to ashes and Jayden's videogames were completely destroyed. Maya collapsed to the ground, clutching what little remained of her photos while Jayden beat his fist into the ground to vent his frustration. Even Chris was defeated. All Alistair needed was Julian for them to fix the portal. From there it would just be a matter of hours Akane couldn't believe what she was hearing. Was he seriously going to give up!? If it's a matter of hours then they just need to stop him before then. Chris argues it isn't that simple. Between the monsters and Maren's militia, there's too much between them for that to even be possible. Jayden agrees. There's no way they can win now. Alec has the option to speak here, either saying It's better to keep trying than or walk to Chris and punch him. Regardless Chris is shocked by that. Maya asks what he plans to do but Alec just starts walking away Gritting his teeth, Jayden grabs his shoulder. Did he seriously think he could just leave without them? C'mon! What sorta friend would he be? Besides, where did he say he was giving up? Worst comes to worst, he'd just let Ra do the dirty work. Maya reluctantly agreed. Even if they can't win, she can't leave them to die and besides, if they win Taylor's just gonna kill her anyway. May as well die giving him a kick in the ass. Chris was shocked but couldn't help but grin. After all, if they can find a way to get back on their feet, he's got no excuse. With newfound resolve, they make their way to Amble Tower Meanwhile at the tower, Alistair walks with Maren who explains that for someone with such a weak body, he's surprisingly strong willed. As they walked down the hall, they could hear the echoing of pained grunts and banging. Haruto and Taylor were trying to force the info out of them to no avail. Haruto suggested cutting off his fingers one by one until he talks but Alistair raised his hand to stop them. He then approached, kneeling down to the doctor's level. He explains that unlike his more brutal subordinates, he wants to bring him back. His research can still do good. He can help them save the world Julian glared daggers at him, responding that he doesn't want to save the world if he has to ruin the lives of innocents to do it. Seeing it's pointless to try and negotiate further, Alistair simply puts his hand on his head, taking in his knowledge. He doesn't like doing it that way. It doesn't hurt but he doesn't typically like invading people's privacy like this. Regardless, he orders Maren to take him to the infirmary while he helps R&D repair the portal. Oh and open up as many rifts as possible. Get the police and FBI to focus on something else Back with the group, along the way, the rifts started opening up around the city. In the subway, in the streets, on the rooftops. They were everywhere. The group looks around, trying to decide what to do. Chris sees the a civilian about to be attacked and, remembering what Amber did for him, he immediately transformed into Tyr, running it through the chest. The others look shocked but he just tells them to hurry up and transform. They'll help who they can along the way. While suprised, they all agree Helping everyone along the way and using a hotwired care to blow a hole into the sealed tower. Metal shutters blocked off every entrance save the one they made for themselves. Now inside, they agree that rescuing Julian should be top priority. Even ignoring his valuable information, they couldn't just leave their friend behind. However, the monsters from outside were already making their way through the breach in the building so Jayden decides to stay behind. Besides, if this runs long and Ra takes control, they'd be in more danger if he were there. As the group leaves, Alec has the option to make a joke about how he owes him a basketball game if he survives, to which Jayden says he'd better be ready to lose While Jayden fought them off, the group made their way up the building to the infirmary. When they find him, Julian insists they leave him and go after Alistair. After explaining that he took the knowledge of the portal from his head, Chris still insists they can at least get him to the entrance. It wasn't reeally out of the way so it shouldn't be problem. However instead, Julian insists on coming with them. He may not be very useful in a fight but if they haven't started the portal yet, he may be able to sabotage it. While hesitant they would agree and Maya would carry Julian, guarding him while the others fought off the monsters. When they arrived at the lobby, bodies of monsters filled the room but they could at least get to the elevator in peace. The group enter the elevator only for it to suddenly pick up speed. Jayden is slammed through as the elevator crashes. When the dust settles, they find the Angles standing before them and ready to fight. Chris groaned before growling at the sight, clearly angry. Amber's about plead with him to just leave but Chris bites back, reminding them of warehouse Amber insists she didn't know Maren knew where they were hiding or what she had planned. She'd never do something that would put him at risk and she didn't know where he was until they lured them out. Taylor just scoffs, reminding her that some of them are gonna die anyway and how he's gonna enjoy making Maya pay for what she did. Maya was clearly shaken but Akane took her hand to calm her. Tyler grabbed Taylor by the collar and ordered him to focus on your target but Haruto, noticing the girls had a better idea. Why not swap opponents? Killing one in front of the other will surely decrease morale. Of course, that's just a way to cover up his true desire to make Akane suffer. Still, Taylor agrees. Meanwhile, Jayden would lock eyes with Jerrod. He's doing this because Alistair said so, but does he really have no mind of his own? Is he really that weak that he can't even think for himself. Jerrod counters by asking what's the point? The powerful will always be at the mercy of those beneath them and they can't do anything to stop it. Why waste time resisting? You'll just end up dead like his dad. Jayden says he thinks that's just an excuse, something he made up to avoid the trouble that comes with trying to better himself. But fine, if power is all he'll listen too, then he'll make him listen right now. Jerrod smirks, saying that he couldn't beat him before without Ra taking over. What makes him think he can now? Jayden just answers that the weak don't have to stay that way forever and he'll prove it right now! With a reluctant sigh, Tyler urges Alec to go home. he can't guarantee his friends' safety but he can try to guarantee his. Alec can either insist that he's not leaving his friends or silently draw his bow. Either way, a fight breaks out. It's mostly even with the group having a clear upperhand over the Angles but before a clear winner can be decided, Alistair summons the Angles to him and they follow suit. When they get there, they see the portal wide open with Alistair and the Angles stepping through. The group tries to chase them but are stopped by a grenades that strike their weaknesses. Did they seriously think they did all that research into the Mythos Gene and didn't have a countermeasure for if they went rogue? Chris said he was shocked to hear about her involvement in this. Why? Just for the money? Or was it for Alistair? Maren admits he has good reason for believing both. This gig has made her men as richer than sultans and she genuinely does love his brother, but in the end the biggest factor is simply, she hates this country. This country, that had the audicity to send her and her men to another country then order them to pull out after so many died. Alistair would create a world where there would be no soldiers, no war for good men and women to die in only to be treated with no value or respect Alec has the option to ask if this is what they would want or simply say that's no excuse for this madness. Maren shoots him down though, saying a kid has no right to judge her and the fight breaks out. Maren puts up a good fight with her tools but is eventually beaten. The group is about to go through the portal but Chris hears a groan. Maren is still awake. Taking time to walk over, Chris says that he can never understand her pain, but comrades died to protect the freedoms of every individual in this country, including the basic freedom to be themselves and Alistair would take that all away. If she understands, destroy the portal behind them. They'll find their own way out but they can both agree, the government getting their hands on it would suck. With that, the group enters and eventually, it shuts behind them. Even if she didn't entirely believe them, she agreed on the last part
