A prince of Thebai and, along with his twin brother, Eteokles, heir to the throne of Oidipous. Famously does not get along with his brother at all. In fact, the two rivals have formed youth armies that "play" at war on a near daily basis in the labyrinth within the city's Inner Wall.  

Polyneikes in the War of Seven

Polyneikes, having been cheated of his share of the Kingdom of Thebai by his twin brother, Eteokles, allies with the army of Argos to attack his own home city. Eteokles defeats him, and both brothers die in single combat. Polyneikes's young son vows that someday he will avenge his father and destroy Thebai.
