Strai is currently the commanding officer aboard the Udenle, which he views as a "quiet" and "peaceful" assignment, compared to where he could have been stationed on the front lines. Before that, he has commanded one other light cruiser, and prior to that he worked a series of ship positions. Pilot or commander had been his end goal for some time, and his efforts to familiarize himself with ships in this way has served that goal.

Despite his famous aversion to trophy hunting, Strai is one of the first to join his clan's hunting parties, and is almost always the first to have run numbers on how many of each type of animal will keep the clan through the winter.
