Grey Ukazu was born the son of farmers in the rural Fharyne colony of Roje. There, little is known of his childhood or upbringing until the year 264, which is when the Corsair Accord began to increase their activity in the area. Then, at an extremely young age, Ukazu managed to ferry information from the Corsair occupied towns back to the Fharyne authorities. This paved the way for the corsairs to be purged from Roje, and set Ukazu up with a position aboard a Fharyne Defense Fleet vessel. For the next few decades, Ukazu worked his way up the ranks, demonstrating his ability as a midshipman, his ferocity as a boarder, his cleverness as a tactician, and his leadership as a captain.
He would remain as a captain for nearly twenty years, despite repeated efforts on the part of the Admiralty to convince him to continue his prodigious rise. However, Grey believed that he was most effective as a captain, and so he remained in his position, training many other naval officers and inspiring them with the ideals of the service. It is rumored that Grey nearly halved the number of pirates operating in Morova during his time in the fleet, and would have brought every last one to justice were it not for his untimely death. It was a skirmish with the pirate vessel Silverlock that would finally do him in, stripping him of his life, his crew of their captain, and the Defense Force of a top quality ship. His last chief-officer and protege Jeremy Wilson continues his efforts to end the pirate menace in Morova, though Grey's own infamy will likely never be matched.
