Evolution
The main difference between the Moreauvia universe and our own is in the natural laws. Evolution is not different, but can be manipulated at a much quicker level (and earlier in the timeline) than in our own world, prior to the discovery of DNA and genetics. Evolution does not follow a Lamarckian path - the rules Darwin discovered still apply, but that hasn't kept the vivisectionists from trying to create and breed the perfect worker or soldier creature.Vivisection
As far back as ancient times, vivisectionists have been able to create weird and hybrid creatures by experimenting on animals. Chimeras were a thing! But these creatures have never passed down their altered traits, if they were able to breed at all.Élan vital
Though they largely didn't know this before DaVinci, these alchemists and vivisectionists were manipulating the élan vital of their subjects. By the mid-19th century, scientists and evolutionists have devised a means of forcing evolutionary changes on embryos of animals, and have successfully bred new creatures. Vivisection is largely out of practice, replaced by this new, successful, methodolgy.
