The Great Elemental Mining Apparatus, or GEMA, is a mega-structure that was built during the age of White Sun. The structure was built several thousand years ago by the first Scions of Providence. It was made to bring back magic into Morado by creating a sustained Binary Aperture into the Astral Plane. Through the Astral Binary, it would then use Lacrima, or elemental crystals capable of handling great power, to siphon energy from the Elemental Planes back into the tower, imbuing the land with magic. Over time, the six elemental Lacrima fell under the control of Six Elemental Monarchs, who would redirect the energy from the people to themselves, establishing the monarchs as the supreme rulers of the land.
Circa 5,000 A.E. the GEMA fell to ruin. Omec Akacheta, the Dark Circle of his era, was betrayed during an attempt to redirect the elemental energies of the tower from the monarchs to the populace. Gatewatcher, his mentor and main administrator of the GEMA's facilities, used Omec's body to redirect and magnify the energies into the Monarchs, allowing them the power needed to ascend to Godhood. Despite the betrayal Omec was able to absorbing the tower's elemental energy for himself, which gave him the ability to kill most of the Elemental Monarchs. The Monarchs were gone, but the power the GEMA managed was suddenly bereft of people capable of managing it. This caused the Elemental Chaos to spread from the tower and across the domains of the former Elemental Monarchs. This incident became known as "The Great Elemental Paroxysm"
Since the Elemental Paroxysm, Gate Watcher remained in the GEMA while Omec controlled the Elemental Lacrima. The land surrounding it became known as "the Sienna'Cal" or the "Desert of Whispers". The GEMA stands as a monument to a bygone era, but deep within remains functionally one of the few places in the world that houses enough energy to potentially unmake reality. The stalemate between Omec and Gatewatcher's control over this land would last for roughly 25 million years within the Sienna'Cal. It would not be until the party arrived in 130 F.E. that the conflict would finally come to an end.

Purpose / Function

Built to create and sustain a binary aperture to the Astral Realm. This in turn would allow the facilitators to draw elemental energy from the Planes into the Material World. Doing so allowed for Magic to return to the world after the First Age Cataclysm.

Alterations

The GEMA was once a hub of Elemental Power, but has since lost a majority of the power it once had. As such its numerous facilities were either severely hindered or inefficient, rendering them useless until their power is restored.

Architecture

Neo-Zoharian. The Tower is made up of various disparate magical metals made possible only by the combined architecture of the Scions of Zohar. The outside of the tower is shimmering, oplaescent white, made from Mythril and Orichalcum scales. The inner walls, gears, and greater mechanisms are made from adamantine, vlodiron, and mythril. The magic runes, wires, and minute mechanisms are made from gold, silver, platinum, and astral glass.
