Session 60: A City of Smoke and Marble
General Summary
Jorrunde sailed the party on her longship, The Seaward, toward the city of Paraetonium on the Isle of Ilfore, which once was a colony of the Oleander Throne. While technically the Governor of Ilfore has sworn fealty to the High Queen, there is still a great Oleander presence on the isle.
A great maelstrom has been appearing outside of the port of Paraetonium, opening and closing as if by design. Thick black smoke billows out from beyond the walls of the city. The party is stopped by an Oleander war ship as they approach and are turned away. However, the occupants of the Seaward rush onto the ship and seize it, encountering Living Spells created by the Oleander wizards. Jorrunde remains to captain the captured ship and the party heads in with one of the former crew members, Vincinius, to act as a guide.
The party arrives in the harbor and sees that soot covers the white marble of the architecture and members cover their mouth and noses with cloth while outside. Magical trinkets are being sold in the open air market, though most are made from coral. The party finds an old fountain in the market that has been defaced, but Zadock recognizes that it was once a fountain that depicted the glamoured form of the Leviathan with his lover, another glamoured great spirit known as Acacia.
The party finds an inn to stay in and discover that kudzu is growing at an alarming rate outside the city and the fires are to keep its vines from reaching the city walls. Some of the party head to the Primus Forge to investigate and they see that armor and weapons of war are being made en masse and enchanted by artificers. They also discover that the Primus Forge was built atop a forge dedicated to Ctenmillar, demonstrating the Oleander’s erasure of non-Oleander customs and icons.
