Session 46: Those Who Would Lie to the Babysitters

General Summary

The party traveled on The Wolfhound toward the isle of Askel, passing through the thick, obscuring mist that lingered outside of Port Raven. During their travels, Tertius made contact with the adventuring party who had the other backpack of holding (discovered to actually be a Shared Backpack). Items were returned and Tertius shared communications and letters for them to deliver while he was traveling.   The party arrived in Port Raven, exiting the ship and immediately walking into a black market of various stolen goods and pilfered items, many of which seemed to be taken from Daoine ships and settlements. They also watch to see where the Wolfhounds “toll” to Fulskorri is taken. They discover that the toll is given to the harbormaster, who has the collection of tolls under lock and guard, and they are taken out to be collected once a week.   The party finds a place to stay, where they discover the schedule for the toll’s collection. They journey out into the market to see if they can find anything of use. They see a statue of the Ice Maiden in the center of the open-air market and by all appearances, she seems to be Human. The statue is large, but the Ice Maiden is actually half-jotunn. Near her statue is a board on which severed tongues have been nailed and written upon it are the words “Those who would lie to the Maidensglaive”. The tongues are in various stages of rot and ravens land on the post to pick at the top tongues. Though the sign is originally mistranslated by Levi who believed that it stated “Those who would lie to the babysitters”. The party eventually finds someone to properly translate the sign, and they are informed that the Maidensglaive are the guards loyal to the Ice Maiden.   Preparing to potentially battle a Dragon, Tertius purchases a bow to attack at range. The party looks over a number of items, including a spear that returns to the hand of the thrower, but ultimately does not purchase it. However, two particular items caught the attention of the party.   First was a book written by “Malthus the Odd”. The author wrote about how the imprisoned Mad God, Nyctelios, had given his unknowing followers the means to free him. Authors who went mad had written passages otherwise unnoticed in their books, but combined could allow the Mad God to escape his bindings. Illevaere purchased a copy of the book.   The second item was the Key of the World Tree, a powerful magic item that allowed one-way passage to a particular place that could only be changed once a month. The party realized that this would be an easy means to return back to the League once they were finished and traded and paid for the item, which Tertius attuned to.   Using the Key of the World Tree, the party opened a portal to the League both to test the item, but also to send Dhowgok and Daihl back to the League and out of danger. The party then prepared to follow the “toll” being delivered.   The toll meant for Fulskorri was loaded upon a sled and pulled by reindeer, guarded by the Maidensglaive. The party followed at a distance, easily tracking the heavily loaded sled through the snow. They saw the sled stop in the remote snow and the maidensglaive pulled out a paper rocket, like the one that was taken from the Orleander Throne forces, and fired it into the air where it streaked up in flame, then burst brightly in the air, creating a signal.   Moments later, a great White Dragon appeared and swooped down, causing fear in some of the party who quickly retreated away. The dragon snatched the laden wagon with its claws and took to the air once again, flying back to its lair and, presumably, Fulskorri.   The party continued to travel, following in the direction of the dragon’s retreat, making camp in the frozen snow, the campfire warding off the effects of the frost and cold. The party continued on until they crossed a large frozen lake and saw the entrance to a cave in the mountain ahead with shattered pieces of a sled on the ground outside, obviously being used as the lair of a white dragon.
