Just a Normal Guy

Malthus Normal approaches Rieta, winning her over with charm and a gift. Later, he helps Rieta in to see Cinead MacPharlan, head of the Eastbridge Thieves Guild, where Rieta cripples him, allowing Malthus to take over leadership of the guild.
He continued to send Rieta, then Bronwyn, on quests to recover specific pages of certain books--caring only for specific passages and not the entire books.
Eventually the party discovered a book that commented on "Malthus the Odd", a believer in Nyctelios, The Mad God, who had believed that Nyctelious had been giving instructions on how to release him from his prison by giving pieces of it to those who were mad.
The books that Malthus had sent for pages to be recovered were all written by authors who eventually went mad, and the party believed that he was uncovering a means to release the Mad God into the world once again.
