Session 13: Four and a Half Votes
General Summary
Morning arrived at the League and the party discussed if they should help the Duke or if they should help Malthus. Tertius was given a vote in the matter, which brought the vote to a deadlock. Tertius, Levi, Kaal, and Illbryen voted to aid the Duke, but Illevaere, Bolvaic, Rieta, and Tiarjead voted to help Malthus. Both sides made arguments for their cause, but the deadlock was not broken. Finally, after much debate, Reggie was given a half-vote (technically, because he is not a full member of the League and not because he is a Halfling, but, well, he also is a halfling...) in order to break the tie. He hadn’t been paying attention to the debates, instead spending his time sorting out all of his spices after Levi cooked breakfast, and he offered to vote for whatever Rieta had voted, since she was typically nice to him and often gave him (non-lethal) hugs.
So, with four and a half votes, the party decided to aid Malthus Normal and recover the criminals in their safehouse, taking them outside of both duchies’ reach before they could be brought to justice. The party went to Eastbridge to let Captain Garry Holdenbrook know that they were turning down the Duke’s offer and to let Malthus know that they were accepting his.
Despite the heavy rain, Garry was out in the field training the troops. They approached him and had Tertius explain that they would not be taking the Duke’s offer. Tertius stated that it was because of the fears of his presence making it a political act. Disappointed, he let the party know that he would make the Duke aware of their decision.
The party then went to speak to Malthus, finding him in his new position. He was pleased to hear the party had accepted his offer and he provided them with a map to the safehouse.
The party returned to the League and decided to head out in the morning. Illevaere summoned their Fey Elk, who was not afraid of Levi and he rode with them on the elk as the others took their horses. The rain continued through the day and as the party entered the clay Scarlet Hills, they found the area slick, slowing travel somewhat. The party made camp in the Scarlet Hills and during the night, Illevaere heard singing in the distance. Illevaere and Rieta went out together to scout the area to see what it was. They approached stealthily and found a lone harpy in a tree singing out a song. They returned to camp and informed the others of what they had found. Illbryen recognized it as a harpy from the description and warned of its song that lures others to it, though both Illevaere and Rieta were able to resist its call.
Watches continued and the singing ceased about an hour later into the night. As morning arrived, the rain finally began to let up, though the clay path was still slick.
The party continued for a while longer along the road and found a landmark that matched one on their map. On the map a note was written “Warning: Danger”. The party found a pathway that led off of the main road and between two hills that had thorns and briars along the path. There were a multitude of signs written in numerous languages which all read “Warning: Danger”, except for one sign written in Druidic that read “Welcome Friend”. Illevaere was intrigued, but decided that it would be better to return to the spot on the way back and the party continued to press on.
