Malen Species in Mithra | World Anvil

Malen

Malen are a race of humanoids that live all over Mithra. Although much less numerous than the Humans, they are quite easy to find throughout the hearthlands, north, south, and west. The differences in different kinds and ethnicities are quite vast, more vast than in Humans.

Appearance

The various ethnic groups vary greatly, so you can read more in their files, but let's talk a bit about the things that all malen have. Malen are compared to humans, a little taller and slimmer than the average human. They however are a little bit stronger than the average human. They vary more in hair and eye color. Humans look relatively like the Malen, but they differ a lot in behaviour. Malen live a much longer life, and maybe this is the source of most of the difference. But I would also say that Malen are generally less Emotional and more logical. They adapt worse to change and are less ambitious. They also often care more about what would be best for everyone instead of for themselves. These difference can always be felt, but don't think that it means that Malen can't be ambitious, or emotional. It is just more of an average situation.
When asked, about the Sailors Dilemma, the humans were mostly divided on what they should do. But most would agree on what most people would do. Malen would mostly agree on both.

Different Kinds

Peoples of the Hearthlands

Right now, the Hearthlands are sparesly populated with malen. These so called Reed-Malen, are the people that live in the forests and hills of the hearthlands. It is more of a collective term for many different ethnicities of malen that live in a variety of places. These are direct descendants of the Hearth-Malen that ruled the Empire of the sun before it fell. There is also various ethnic groups of malen in the mountains that we usually classify as High-Malen.

People of the North

The North holds two major ethnic groups of malen. We classify them together as Snow-Malen, even though their common ancestor is only as close as the Ancient-Malen. The Jhecheon are direct descendants of the people of the Hearthlands. While the Ragmar come directly from the Ancient-Malen. They see themselves all as Snow-Malen and the difference is at this point almost only visual. Also because there has been so much overflow that the two groups don't have clear lines anymore.

Peoples of the South

In the vast jungles and savannahs of Ell'fyka in the south, live the Wood-Malen. These warrior people have many different smaller ethnic groups that can look very different from each other. From the relatively fair skin of the Dag'nii to the very dark skin of the Alta'arans. They are shorter and slimmer than the Northern malen. Especially in women, the difference is very noticeable. Other than that you have the malen that are not in the clans. These are collectively grouped as Sun-Malen. You have the more western peoples who have copper skin. And the southeastern people with their dark skin.

Peoples of the West

West of the Carafe lies the western continent of Dathra. Besides the Colonies, there is a lot more to this continent than you might think. The Malen that live here have split off from the Malen that first came to Mithra and ended up as the Wood-Malen. They collectively are known as Deep, and sometimes Dark-Malen. There are many different peoples and ethnic groups that make these people up, but just know that they are probably the most different from the other Malen on their sister continent.
