Session 253 - The Dead and the Diseased Report in Misty Isle of Harn | World Anvil

Session 253 - The Dead and the Diseased

General Summary

20th of Larane (Second month of Summer) 725TR

The story so far

The heroes have uncovered a vile conspiracy. The Church of Morgath plans to unleash a plague on the Thardic Republic, ferment chaos, and install a dictator. These evil priests have a secret base on Molok Island where they experiment with all manner of diseases, cruelly using lepers as test subjects.

The party has snuck onto the island and entered a cave network used to breed giant rabid bats.

This is the continuation of Session 252 - Molok Island.

Location - Molok Island west of the City of Golotha in the Kingdom of Rethem.

Part 1 - Batkeeper

After their battle with the giant albino bats, the party takes the opportunity for a short rest. Unfortunately, the nearby Batkeeper is aware of them and uses dark arts to summon demons to deal with the heroes. The batlike Eco Demons are a frustration, stunning the heroes with their high-intensity sound blasts and tearing into their flesh with their iron-tipped claws, which cause deep gouges on their metal armor. The evil adversaries are eventually slain, but the heroes take more damage than expected.

Exploring the cave further, the party finds barrels containing the remains of animals, mostly dogs, rodents, and ground animals. This rotting flesh is infected with rabies, and the foul mass is quickly disintegrated. Avoiding a devious pit trap, the heroes find and follow a shaft down.

Part 2 - Rotting Wind

The shaft leads to a long winding, foul-smelling passage. The air is corrupted by the Shadow of Bukrai. The Rotting Wind dissolves flesh and curses the heroes, preventing healing, nonetheless, it is soon dissipated.

Avon finds a locked doorway, and the party enters an underground complex via a secret side passage.

Part 3 - Disease Ridden Undead

Undead patrol the complex and five Rot Zombies are lurking nearby. They breathe out blasts of foul, disease-ridden death and when hacked to pieces explode into poisonous diseased clouds of rancid corruption.

Two priests of Morgath are nearby, and they have Gulmorvin guards with armor plates and weapons sewn into their flesh. They are quickly eliminated, being no challenge to Jolanta's powerful Corrosive Blasts.

Sneaking forward Avon spots more undead, oblivious to the heroes at the moment. The party avoids them and discovers a stairwell leading up. Acheron, who has an excellent sense of direction believes this leads likely leads up to the island's temple complex. Rather than continuing to explore the underground complex, the party considers looking upstairs.

To be continued.
