Tubels

Unfortunately, because of their genetic modifications, many Genets have found themselves sterile, and have created a new way to reproduce. Beings called Tubels.   While still under the umbrella definition of Transhuman, these people are never born traditionally or have a childhood, unlike most other Transhumans. Never having parents, they were grown, fully formed, either during the journey to the Alpha Avior System, or afterwards, in the Surro Aster Cluster on stations or colonies. However, recently there have been tales of Tubels who were created as children, some as young as babies, rather than as an adult.   Other than their beginnings, they have the same genetic capabilities as their Genet ‘parents’, as Genets were used as blueprints. Tubels can be further modified, gaining cybernetics to expand their senses like most other Transhumans.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Unlike the rest of the New Terran Society, a Tubel’s first language will always be Terran Trade Standard. This is only language they will know when leaving the tube they were Created in, and it is up to other Transhumans whether or not they’ll be taught the home languages of Earth.

Culture and cultural heritage

Tubels aren't always treated with equality. At the same time of highly-valued freedom, some Transhumans view Tubels as expendable, as they are Created using a blueprint loaded onto a database. As expendable as a Tubel can seem to these people, this means that they are taken advantage of in certain circles. There have been Tubel-Creation restrictions in place for at least a hundred years, and even more ways to break said restrictions.   It's not quite slavery when a Tubel is Created for a specific task (only because Transhumans still remember the instinctive revulsion of the word 'slavery'), but only a temporary restriction of rights until the tasks required of them are completed--a justification is in these words, often repeated ad nauseum, as said tasks are usually never completed, and are usually added upon. Typically, those who view or treat a Tubel crudely call them Clones.

Shared customary codes and values

While freedom is highly valued for all Transhumans, and with that comes exploration, a Tubel will always belong to the Clan that created them. To cut ties with them is to cut ties with everything a Tubel is, and it’s frowned upon to do such a thing. Very rarely is a Clan forced to expel a Tubel, as each Clan values their ‘children’ to a high degree.
This is, of course, different for Transhumans who don’t belong to a familial Clan. Usefulness is the only value truly encouraged: A Tubel must be useful in a Clan or be cast out the same as anyone else. Typically these Clans will be in charge of companies or facilities and be more business orientated. Tubels coming from this type of Clan will not be treated as family but as a commodity, the same as everyone else.

Tubels not Created in familial Clans usually have a number assigned to them as a secondary name, if not their very first.

Common Dress code

Tubels, if fully grown, for the first few years of their life after the tube, all wear a uniform that varies depending on where one lives. But, the standard is always the same: tight, form fitting clothing, easy to wash and stretchy to allow for movement. Depending on their ages and the level of education they receive, a Tubel will also be given a jacket or cloak with a designation specifying year, class, and Clan.

Birth & Baptismal Rites

When a Tubel is born, the entire Clan gathers in the Creation Room to watch them exit their tube behind one-way mirrors. Although the Tubel may be told that the rest of their family is there, most of the time it’s a detail left out. Only the two whose genes were mixed specifically may be present in the same room as the Tubel, plus the scientist(s) who put them together—who, in some cases, are also included in parental rights if so chosen.

Coming of Age Rites

A full-grown Tubel comes of age after they have graduated basic training and at least one of their majors in Cluster Sciences. This can be at any age, which is difficult for a Tubel to keep track of, as most Tubels are Created fully grown. Although recent years have seen a boom in child-like Tubels, some as young as a babe, those before still view coming of age as the end of their first stage of schooling.   A child-like Tubel views coming of age differently. Their coming of age is a physical state, as they go through puberty unlike the Tubels that came before. Like Terrans before them, the coming of ages can occur at anywhere from 14 to 26 years of physical age. Although they are limited on what they can do even then, as physical capability is taken into account when allowing a rite to happen.
“At first, it was illegal for Tubels to even be Created in the first place, but now? Only selling them is illegal, because now there are Clans and I guess that overrides everything else.”
